Dear partners,

Our multistakeholder initiative (Equal@Work), created by our network 12 years ago, has gone a long way. Since 2009, we have brought together private sector organisations, civil society organisations, public institutions and academics committed to finding solutions so that racialised minorities can fully participate in the European labour market. 

This platform now gathers 10 Fortune 500 companies coming together to share best practices in the field of DEI in the workplace.  As 2021 comes to an end, here is a recap of our main joint activities this part year and some key achievements.

During this first session with the Equality Data collection working group (number 3 in the infographic), we had the great opportunity to  welcome Margherita Logrillo, Policy advisor at the European Commission and coordinator of the Equality data collection subgroup at DG Justice. She presented the European Commission’s work on self identification, categories to use while collecting data and the framework around GDPR and sensitive data, based on the latest guidance note the collection of equality data dissagregated by race and ethnicity.
We want to thank all participants for joining and sharing the issues they face and the solutions they have found. There will be more to come on the equality data collection working group at the beginning of year 2022.

2) Some key achievements from our partners!

The Equal@Work platform has now reached 10 members that are part of the 500 most fortunate companies around the world: Adecco, Sodexo, Inditex, Ingka Group, Zendesk, L’Oreal, Coca-Cola, Pepsico, P&G and SAP. We are very excited to share with you some key achievements achieved thanks to our partners.

SOS racism carried out a screening to assess discriminatory processes occurring in interim agencies in France. They tested whether interim agencies would respond favourably to reject non-european candidates. 45% of the 69 agencies contacted agreed to discriminate. 

We salute that out of all agencies contacted, none from the Adecco Group gave their green light to this illegal practice. Adecco has been training staff at all levels of their organisation on diversity, equity and inclusion. 
ENAR salutes a new development from Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear and Bershka. In November, an agreement was found between labour unions and employers to not request anymore that women wearing headscarves must remove them in the changing rooms before taking their shifts in retailer’s stores.

That's a wrap for 2021! We want to thank everyone that  participated in these achievements!  We wish you happy festivities for the end of this year and we are super excited to do more with you in the coming year!
