FROM CRISIS TO CHRIST-CENTERED HOPE AND RESTORATION

VISION: To meet the basic needs of the hungry, homeless and unemployed while teaching life skills that lead them to be gainfully employed, community restorers and part of a Christ-centered church. It is a privilege and honor, not a sacrifice, to serve the low income/no income persons in a Christ-like way.

Hope and Joy

In December of 2010 we hosted the last of our four prayer meetings leading to the start of Jericho Road Ministries on January 3, 2011.

Why did we pray?  To humbly and earnestly commit Jericho Road Ministries to God for His Glory in the City for the joy of all people.

Simple Prayer meetings like the Haystack Prayer Meetings in 1806 can have profound impact.  In fact, any great work of God must start with prayer or it will have a weak foundation.

With profound gratefulness we Thank God for Jericho Road Ministries 11th year!

As we embark on our 12th year we are just as dependent on God as when we first started.  May God continue to be glorified as we joyfully minister to all peoples in the city!

The Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the Highest” was the Jericho Road Christmas magnet gift created by my gifted sister-in-law artist Lynn Winkel to all who attended the Christmas Open House.

Our most grateful THANKS to Culver’s restaurant of Golden Valley and to the Thrivent Financial Co. for donating all of the delicious food for the open house.

I shared at the Open House an illustration from my color-coated keys.  Each key has a unique individual purpose: To unlock a lock.  Many, many are needed when there are many, many locks to unlock.

At Jericho Road we have many, many crucial volunteers and partners with very great talents and abilities.  Each is unique and needed to make the ministry of Jericho Road happen.  We are so grateful to God for each person who has “unlocked a lock” with their special gifts and abilities.  With hope and joy we eagerly await our twelfth year to minister hope to a City still hurting from both Covid and the Riots.

This last December, Loren Hansen, a foundational part of the Jericho Road team from the beginning, mentioned Jericho Road Ministries to the Cooperative (Summerhill) where he lives. It was suggested that the residents could do a Winter Coat drive for Jericho Road.  It was a great success as Jackets, Clothes, Blankets, Diapers, Caps, Scarves, Socks, Sweatshirts and financial support came in.  This young girl is very happy to have received a new warm snow suit and pink cap.

One of the generous folks from the Cooperative (Russ Cox) gave a new Chromebook Laptop Computer.  This young boy and his mother were the happy recipients.  Their family has dealt with so many setbacks (including a bad case of Covid) and are currently in transitional housing which Jericho Road helped to facilitate.  The computer will allow the young boy a pivotal opportunity to enhance his online classes/learning while the family seeks permanent housing.  Please keep them in your prayers for housing/stability.

We are happy to report that another Woman who had been living in her car for over a year just got a new apartment and a new job.  Her faith, though tested, was strong and a prayed-for breakthrough indeed happened.  Jericho Road helped with car repair, gas, food, prayer, application fee and housing assistance.

Thank You all for your wonderful partnerships and prayers as we bring Hope and Joy to the City! Your gifts and abilities are making a “key” difference!

Amazing Grace

In the mid to late 1700’s, there was a man named John.  By the time he was 11 years old, he was in training, on ships sailing the Mediterranean Sea.  Bright young man that he was, he efficiently absorbed the training and had a likely destiny of becoming an officer in the British Royal Navy.  However, somewhere he got off the straight, narrow, and upward track.  Falling in with the wrong crowd, he not only missed promotion, he was on occasion flogged and even demoted to a lower rank for serious misdeeds.  Sinking lower and lower in life in general, he even became involved in the slave trade in Africa.  In his early 20’s, he was part of the crew on a slave ship crossing the Atlantic, when the ship ran into a horrendous, ship-sinking storm.  As the ship was battered by wind and waves, a portion of one side of the ship caved in, and he woke up to water filling his compartment.  Trained to react quickly, he immediately went to the water pumps along with other sailors and worked frantically, trying to pump water out of the ship as fast as it was flowing in, so it would prevent sinking.  After hours and hours of that seemingly fruitless battle, totally exhausted, he finally went up on deck.  Throwing himself prostrate on the deck, he cried out, words to the effect of, Lord, have mercy on us all!

Miraculously the ship and crew survived the storm.  We thank the Lord that he took seriously his heart cry to the Lord AND the reality of survival.  As a result of that moment of transformative heart cry, his entire life was changed.  He became a noted preacher and fruitful composer.  You may recognize the name John Newton, who wrote:

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

Many who come to JRM for help are in crisis situations, perhaps not life vs death, as Newton was, but still beset by huge anxiety and tension over urgent, basic-living needs.  It is a timely opportunity to provide crisis aid, along with the offer to pray, if they wish.  And, over the years, many have, as a result, experienced
AMAZING GRACE in a way that has transformed their lives to all eternity

                                      WE PRAISE THE LORD

And we express our thanks to you, as support partners, who make this ministry possible, in the midst of strong storms of life that so many of our “customers” are experiencing.
