UHOIC Website Updates

Focus Group Zoom Meeting Screenshot
A big mahalo to the faculty volunteers who took the time to join our first ever UHOIC Website Focus Group! Our faculty and instructional design volunteers, Brenda Coston (University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa), Rheta Kuwahara (University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa), and Brent Hirata (Leeward Community College) met synchronously with us on Zoom, November 2, to review the UHOIC website together. We had a blast sharing tips and talking story, with many great suggestions shared on how to improve their user experience.
Based on feedback given, we have made a few improvements to the UHOIC website:
  • Resources Page: A Filter menu has been added at the top of the page so users can easily view resources available at once and/or filter resources by category (e.g. Laulima Resources, UH Online Templates, Accessibility, etc).
  • Contact Us: A “Contact us” section has been added to the main navigation menu to make it easier for users to seek our assistance with online courses. The About Us page has also been moved under this section.
  • Additionally, the Professional Learning & Development menu item has been renamed to “Programs and Events” to better represent the growing number of items listed within the dropdown.
Have any additional feedback to add? We are continually seeking ways to improve our UHOIC website and to add resources that support YOU. If you have any suggestions or would like to join a future focus group, please contact us at uhoic@hawaii.edu.

Recap/Highlights

H5P + Laulima Pilot Updates

As mentioned in our November newsletter, a group of UH faculty and staff began piloting an interactive content building tool called H5P. After some initial exploration to familiarize themselves, pilot participants began integrating their newly created activities into their online Laulima courses (in which student completion of activities is tied to and automatically recorded in the Gradebook).

With the pilot underway, we’ve begun checking in and reviews from both faculty and students have been quite positive so far! View the word cloud below for a snippet of student evaluation feedback as to why they were motivated and engaged to complete H5P activities in their courses during Fall 2021 semester (n=123). Of those respondents, a whopping 93% of students indicated they would like to see more courses with H5P Interactives embedded!

Tech Tip

You may have noticed some changes to your Google interface. Our UH Google accounts were upgraded to the Google Workspace for Education Plus license in October. Wondering what version you have? An easy way to tell is to go to Google Calendar to see if Time Insights shows up on the left-side (see the image below for reference).
