Notes from the Secretary
We have had a turbulent year with many difficulties to endure.
Things will get better, we do not however, know just when that will happen.
The Masonic Home is still unable to have outside visitors on campus and therefore, we are still prevented from having in-person meetings on campus.
Until those restrictions are removed, we will continue to conduct our business virtually. When we are permitted to resume, the first order of business will be to have officer’s practices to shake the rust off our ritual.
Officers, check your ritual and make sure it is the current copy. Current editions are as follows: Royal Arch, 2019 edition, Council January 2020, and Commandery 2019.
If you don’t have the current versions, Contact the Secretary/Recorder to get an up-to-date ritual. I have them on hand at the present time.

High Priest Bob Pinkerton
Companions,
I hope you had a Merry Christmas and that you all will have a very Merry New year.
I hope all you and your families are in good health and are prospering.
I have been told In order to appreciate the good times, you have to have had experienced some rough times.
The last two years have been a trial for many of us. Covid causing family and friends to stay apart. In some cases, forever. Also in some cases, fear causing people to act out of character or irrationally. Hospitals and Retirement homes with overburdened staff doing the best they can. Political unrest and political infighting.
Reflecting on all this can lead to a state of sadness unless we also look at the positive aspects that occurred. Vaccines that reduce the severity of Covid were developed and advanced through agencies in record time that are infamous in being cautious in authorizing new medications and procedures. The growth of social networking that allowed us to hold meetings remotely. People showing up with impressive skills working in the background to allow us to hold our meetings. Even seeing people at the Zoom meetings that we haven’t seen in years due to living at a distance.
The best thing being that our companions, pull together, respect each other, and work toward a common goal of supporting each other and our communities by practicing those Masonic virtues of Philia and Agape love.
So, what about the future? What can we expect to occur? Well, no one can accurately predict what will happen, but we can learn from our past.
While we are still working through the problems residual from the last year, things are improving. Some areas are opening up that allow meetings even now. A special case is that since we hold our meetings in a retirement community we come under some special regulations and have different authorities which all have to authorize gatherings. I know the Masonic Home is working closely with those authorities.
We will, I am sure, be holding meetings in person sometime this year. Perhaps sooner than later.
This means that once we are together again, we will have to work with dedication to bring our ritual to a level we can all be proud of.
We can also take this opportunity to step up and support our chapter.
Volunteer to take on a role that you might be interested in. Most importantly, show up and participate in our activities. Not everyone needs to be a ritualist or hold and office. We look forward to seeing YOU.
Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand!
Bob Pinkerton

Illustrious Master
Dinesh Chhabra
Greetings Companions,
I wish you all a Happy and Blessed years to come.
Freemasonry is not magic. From the moment the Master takes your hand to raise you, you are only Symbolically translated to a sublime plane of being and thinking, but this is where it begins. You have the opportunity for a magnificent rebirth of spirit. It can be magical, but only if you engage in the Labor of the Craft.
This month's theme is "Moving Forward".
Moving forward means not to accept the calamities of life to break you. It means that you are willing to continue even during times of great difficulties. It also implies that you keep fighting until the obstacles – no matter how huge – are overcome. But moving forward also means that you do not allow external circumstances to stop you from the pursuit of your goals.
Life is not always a joyful ride. It can treat you really bad sometimes, as we all know. Before you even realize, it drags you away from the sunny side of life into a dark storm. Headwind will oppose every one of your movements. Trials and tribulations will rain down upon you like hailstones. Setbacks and failures accompany every one of your steps.
When the going gets tough, people usually start looking for something to blame. Admittedly, this is a relatively easy thing to do. There will be always someone or something to blame. For this reason, it’s always easier to play the victim in difficult situations. But none of this will lead you anywhere. Playing the victim will not help you to move on with your life. All it does is to immobilize and discourage you from ever attempting to break free.
The great problem with all of this is that not moving on is not going to help you in any way, shape, and form. For this reason, life is not about counting how often and measuring how hard it has hit you. It’s all about finding ways to get back up again, no matter how often or how hard it hits you. It’s about moving forward despite the greatest difficulties and obstacles.
When you’re confronted with difficulties, remind yourself that it is not so important what happens to you. Be aware that it is far more important how you think about what happened and how you react to it. It’s about making the choice to gather all the strength and courage that is left deep within you in order to get back up on your feet.
When we move, we open our minds to what could be. We explore, we think boldly about the next big thing. We create for a better future.
With that said, looking forward to the brighter side of what we are going thru now and getting back to our rituals.
Final though, always remember that the virus is still lurking out there, please stay safe and be healthy.
If I can be of any assistance to any of you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Knights Templar - Inspections
Sir Knights,
Commanderies are regularly inspected on the condition of their records, having the necessary paraphernalia to perform ritual work, and knightly courtesies.
Since the very beginning of the Commandery Inspection, this activity continues to bring Sir Knights together for fellowship and encourages dedication to Templary.
This simple sign above, and in the monthly newsletter calendar, is to remind you, at least on the 14th of the month, to review your piece of the Commandery Inspection that is coming up.

In Greece, a gold or silver coin is baked into a cake, called a vasilopita. The person who receives the piece of cake with the coin inside is said to have luck the rest of the year.
In Spain they eat twelve grapes at midnight on New Year’s Eve to bring 12 months of happiness.
While in Bolivia, families often hang small homemade dolls outside their homes for good luck.
In Japan, at midnight on New Year’s Eve, bells and gongs sound to banish bad spirits.
To leave the old year behind and welcome in the new one, the Dutch make bonfires in the street using Christmas trees.
Portuguese children go from home to home and sing songs for neighbors. They may receive sweets and coins in return.

Harlem Globetrotters Day!
January 7th
Did you know...
Still playing today, the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team was founded by Abe Saperstein in 1926.
They were initially known as the Savoy Big Five, after the famous Savoy Ballroom in Chicago, where they held their first performances.
The original team members were all African-Americans from the south side of Chicago, and they didn’t play in Harlem until four decades after the team’s formation.
The team embodies qualities of human persistence and creativity. Founded when professional basketball was exclusively for white players, they decided to take basketball to another level, infusing comedy and entertainment.
Over the decades, they’ve won over 27,000 games! Harlem Globetrotters Day is a day to honor and remember the achievement of this great basketball team and all other teams worldwide.

National Peanut Butter Day!
January 27th
Did you know...
National Peanut Butter Day is a day to celebrate America’s favorite nut butter.
The annual observance has its roots in the 1890s when Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, an American physician, and health care reformer, created peanut butter for patients at his Battle Creek Sanitarium because he believed that it could help prevent both constipation and obesity.
