Happy New Year!
I know it's a little late...but I do hope you're having a very good new year so far. It certainly hasn't been without its challenges, but I am so grateful for some of the upcoming opportunities that I am looking forward to:, such as gallery representation: I'm also grateful to have work included in the following exhibitions: Finally, I am so excited to be exhibiting 'The Grandmothers' project February 5 - April 2 at  I'm also looking forward to mentoring with LevellingUp again in the new year and am really looking forward to a mini art retreat at the Banff Boutique Inn in February. All this after spending the holidays with my girls.  I really couldn't ask for more.

The Leighton Art Centre

It's finally here...'The Grandmothers' exhibit will begin at the Leighton Art Centre, Calgary, Alberta on February 5, 10-4 pm and will run until April 2, 2022. I'm thrilled and cannot wait to see the portraits and stories of these incredible women displayed in that beautiful location. Thank you so much to everyone for contributing your beautiful grandmothers.
'Painting the West'
I'm excited to share that I've been invited to take part in 'Painting the West' as a guest artist of Julie deBoer in the annual online 'Square Foot Show' hosted by Ontario artist Julie Veenstra

Date: February 9-11, 2022
Online: https://squarefootshow.com/
Available: 5-12x12 original paintings on canvas for ONLY $300 each

Apparently the art sale tends to be short and quick so they do recommend going online as soon as it opens. As the date gets closer, I will be sharing more information on my website here and on instagram here.
ASA Gallery
My first body of work to be exhibited many years ago was 'Simple Pleasures' which focused on the importance of home. These days, since I can no longer regularly paint on large canvases due to adhesive capsulitis in both of my shoulders, it has been nice to re-visit this old body of work by creating small 6x8 interiors on wood panels. This piece, titled 'Home II' is currently being exhibited at the ASA Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Crossroads Market, 1235-26 Ave SE, Calgary, Alberta as part of the 90th Anniversary Exhibition for Juried & Lifetime Members. The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10-4pm (closed December 19-January 11) and the show will run until February 19. 2022.
Banff Boutique Inn
Home Again / 6x8 / acrylic on panel (framed)

I am thrilled to be invited to a mini-artist retreat at the Banff Boutique Inn in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. I love Banff and can clearly remember my first visit when I was 5-years old. It was a long drive from northern Manitoba, but oh so worth it and my father took me for a little hike up the mountains and taught me to use his camera. I feel so fortunate to live so close and to be able to visit regularly as it is definitely my favourite place. I'm really looking forward to spending several days painting in that glorious environment and can't wait to see what I will produce.

Word-of-the-Year
For many years, instead of making New Years' Resolutions, I have selected a word to set my intentions for the year. I always select a new journal/sketchbook and write my word on the cover using an acrylic paint marker so that I see it every day. The journal includes gratitude lists, to-do lists, doodles, sketches and ideas for new projects. I have found this to be a really helpful tool to keep me motivated and focused. This year I've chosen 'Abundance' because I know that I need to learn to accept the gifts I'm given gratefully and gracefully instead of expecting something bad every time I receive something good. I'm not sure where that came from... If you'd like to learn more, please visit my website here and here
Extraordinary Women
The 'Extraordinary Women' project is complete! Now that I've photographed each piece, I still have to varnish & wire and then find a space to exhibit the series. It was so difficult to narrow down the selection of women and I want to add so many more...who knows? Maybe I'll continue this project a bit into the new year prior to beginning the 'Woman's Work' project as I am still awaiting submissions (read more here). If you are a woman who has been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic or know of one, please do get in touch as I would love to include you in the project. I only require a photograph or two of you along with a little bit of your story (it can be as short or as long as you're comfortable with)...please email here. I want to thank all of the women who have already shared stories and photos with me as I understand that it can feel very vulnerable.

'The Grandmothers' Books
There are now two books available for 'The Grandmothers' project...the first is an exhibition booklet that includes the photographs along with the painting and story of each grandmother and can be viewed here. The second is a mini-booklet that includes the painting and story and is available to view here.
