Music For The Holiday Break

In theory, we do not actually like Christmas music. We respect the dark power and bright moons of the solstice but who is a fan of sunset at 4:30pm? And yet…

In the mid-2010s, Brassland found itself in the unexpected position of commissioning artists to make holiday-themed recordings for one of the big music services. This Is The Kit were the first contribution with a cover of the Peanuts / Charlie Brown classic "Christmas Time Is Here." And we were deeply honored when icons such as Anais Mitchell, Mx. Justin Vivian Bond, and Sondre Lerche agreed to record songs for us in subsequent years — usually teaming up with our family of artists like Jherek Bischoff and Thomas "Doveman" Bartlett.

The best way to dip in to this body of work is this 3 hour playlist. On this mixtape, the Brassland holiday music is rounded out with a seasonal mix co-curated by Mx. Bond. C'mon C'mon soundtrack

Let us take a moment to recommend Aaron & Bryce Dessner's soundtrack to the new Mike Mills movie C'mon C'mon — a kind of cinematic sibling to The National's I Am Easy To Find collaboration with the same filmmaker. We had nothing to do with this release! But if you follow Brassland, we assume you follow the Dessner Brothers' activities. We want to make sure this ambient soundtrack doesn't get lost among their as-usual prolific array of collaborations, compositions, and productions. It's a beautiful, wandering, warm-hearted listen.
