NCJWA NSW OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED FROM FRIDAY 24 DECEMBER 2021 TO MONDAY 24 JANUARY 2021
Members and Friends,
I am so pleased to share that our NCJWA NSW volunteers have not let the pandemic come in the way of supporting our programs as we continue to strive to make a difference.
The Carers Recognition Bill 2021 (ACT) has passed the ACT Parliament recognising the care relationship and establishing a set of principles imposing specific obligations for care and carer support agencies.
NCJWA NSW continues to face many challenges, but together we are unstoppable. We are so very appreciative of your help and support and I look forward to getting to know you in my role as President of this amazing organisation.
Happy 2021. Wishing you good health and stay safe.
At Days for Girls at NCJWA NSW we have had an incredible year making liners for girls and women around the world.
We are very grateful for all our hardworking volunteers.
Last week we checked, counted, and packed 6,272 liners, which are now ready to be delivered to the Days for Girls Ryde Team.
In April we handed over 2,600 to them.
So this is a huge increase.
Looking ahead 2022 will be more productive than ever. To assist with this vision we are currently looking for more committee members to assist in the many tasks of:
- preparing make-at-home kits
- checking returned work
- liaising with schools
- planning events
And we always welcome more volunteers to do the practical tasks of liner making. These include:
- straight sewing
- tracing and cutting
- washing/drying fabric
- folding and bundling.
If you are interested in getting more involved please feel free to give me a call or send an email to ncjwadfg@gmail.com
We look forward to having more hands on board next year.
Warmest wishes for a happy, healthy New Year.
Regards,
Ruth

During my breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment my mum was a huge support to me. She was always by my side at every oncologist appointment and chemotherapy treatments. It is so lovely that now we can meet together at the National Council of Jewish Women of Australia NSW!
This is a picture of us together recently helping the Days for Girls team pack kits. We are so happy to be able to go to Council together for a good cause rather than having to go to all of those hospital appointments!
December and January are usually a time for people to go away on holidays and have a festive time. However, for me, especially during my breast cancer diagnosis, I was still having my chemo treatments and the hospital doesn’t close or have a holiday. It can be a difficult time for many people in our community.
I want to reach out to everyone during these December/January holidays and if you need extra support, Tikvah V’Or is very happy and available to be there for you or anyone you know going through a difficult time health wise. Take care everyone and stay safe. Davina Ash

"3 years ago this month the first Cuddle Bundles delivery was made, At that stage all we had in place was a name and a logo, and a dream of being able to help Mums and babies wherever we could. By the end of our first year we were a team of 4 volunteers.
Fast forward to today and we have an amazing team of 13 regular volunteers, we have established relationships with hospitals, women's shelters and refuges, and community centres throughout Sydney. We constantly reach out to other organisations and this year Barnardos, Wesley Mission, and Sanctuary Housing, are some of the new ones that have started requesting Cuddle Bundles.
Lockdown did not deter us – in fact we were inundated with requests and busier than ever before, with so much need of assistance,
As it was deemed an essential service, we had permission to go in and so Ella and I could pack and Marilyn was able to sort throughout lockdown. Our volunteers Sherel, Steph and Dalya and also Barbara and Karen from Mum for Mum were able to assist with contactless drop offs.
Of late there have been many extremely heartbreaking cases. We received an urgent call from RHW about a beautiful baby boy who had not been expected to survive birth. As a result the parents had bought nothing for him. Miraculously he survived, and was going to be able to go home to meet his 2 year old sister. The request was for everything - clothing, bassinet, pram, a car capsule, etc to make him as comfortable as possible for the duration of his short life expectancy. Within 2 hours of the request, everything had been packed and delivered to the hospital, including a gift for his sister.
Cuddle Bundles could not operate without the generous brand new donations from businesses, beautiful pre-loved items from local Mums, and the wonderful knitting ladies.
We all so enjoy being Cuddle Bundle volunteers, and the opportunity to hopefully make a small difference in the lives of Mums and babies.
To Ella, and each one of our incredible volunteers thank you for your dedication and commitment to Cuddle Bundles."
Those who were able to participate in our event with bestselling author Alexandra Joel on Monday evening (either via Zoom or in person) were riveted by her fascinating talk about the mystery of her great-grandmother Rosetta Raphael's astounding life.
