CPTED Information Session for Local Government Officers

The WAPC is currently advertising Safer Places by Design Guidelines for public comment. The document updates principles and processes for the application of Crime Prevention Through Environment Design (CPTED) for all development in WA. 

Join us at WALGA on Thursday, 3 February for a workshop led by DPLH to learn more about changes to the Guidelines and their application to Local Government planning, and provide feedback on the draft document. Planning Updates

Webinar: Development Assessment Panel Regulations Reforms

DPLH has advised a four-week consultation period will commence in early February (exact date TBC) on amendments to the Development Assessment Panel Regulations. This will include changes to the existing system and the creation of a Special Matters DAP. WALGA and DPLH are jointly organising a webinar for Local Governments to hear directly from DPLH the proposed reforms and their implications for Local Governments - details of the date and time of the webinar will be provided through this newsletter when scheduled. 

News: Updated Bushfire Guidelines

The WAPC has published version 1.4 of Guidelines for Planning in Bushfire Prone Areas as part of the State Government's ongoing Bushfire Framework Review. 

News: 2021 Bushfire Mapping

DFES has released the 2021 update of the Map of Bush Fire Prone Areas - a transition period for newly designated areas applies until 11 April for the BCA and LPS Regulations. No transition period applies for application of SPP3.7. 

News: Pre-Lodgement Advice 

The WAPC has advised that the pre-lodgement advice process for MRS amendments will be expanded to the PRS and GBRS. Read more

News: Kalamunda Water Policy

The City is currently advertising its Wetlands and Waterways LPP which establishes appropriate setbacks (foreshores and buffers) to wetlands and includes rehabilitation provisions. Advertising closes 14 February.

Update: Third-Party Signage

In October, WALGA sought feedback from Local Governments on their preferred approach for controlling stand-alone, third-party digital signage and whether a new model land use definition is needed. The City of Busselton's current approach offered an alternative. Read more
