DUT TAKES PART IN THE EU: AFRICA THE JOURNEY CONFERENCE AND HACKATHON FOR THE FIRST TIME

The Durban University of Technology took part in the prestigious EU: AFRICA-The Journey Conference and Hackathon held virtually from Thursday, 09 December 2021 to Sunday, 12 December 2021.

The online conference and hackathon was aimed at bringing fresh solutions to socio-economic problems in Africa and in Europe. Across Africa and Europe, the event consisted of about 3000 participants, 100 mentors, 50 speakers and 500+ tech communities.

For four days, there were thought-provoking discussions fuelled by innovation and technology in alignment with the aims set by the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and the Africa Agenda 2063. The conference was broadcasted live on Facebook and YouTube.

FACULTY OF APPLIED SCIENCES HOSTS A SUCCESSFUL INAUGURAL STATE OF THE FACULTY ADDRESS

The Executive Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Professor Suren Singh, hosted the 3RD Annual State of the Faculty Address (SOFA3) and Awards Ceremony on 15 December 2021 via Microsoft Teams.

The annual event highlights key strategic achievements and developments in the Faculty and was delivered by the Executive Dean, Professor Suren Singh. The event was directed by Mr Nivar Somaru (Academic Development Practitioner: FAS) who opened the event by stating that the SOFA3 provided the Faculty with an opportunity to engage with staff, students, alumni and key stakeholders and to showcase the accomplishments of the Faculty as well.

DVC: RIE OFFICE HOSTS COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS SHOWCASE AND EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2021

The office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Innovation and Engagement at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted the second Community Engagement Projects Showcase and Excellence Awards 2021 on Microsoft Teams last Tuesday, 14 December 2021.

Staff, students, and social partners were honoured for showing exceptional commitment to community engagement projects in the past 12 months, to serve communities in line with the values, principles, and objectives of DUT’s ENVISION2030.

DUT ACKNOWLEDGES ITS DONORS FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF STUDENTS

The prestigious Donor Recognition Event was recently held at the Durban Exhibition Centre and on Microsoft Teams in a hybrid event.

The donors present at the event were DUT staff, Ms Sphumelele Yende, Ms Pam Nene from (SA Homeloans), Dr Mahmoud Youssef-Baker (Iqraa Trust), Mr Philani Mbela (Afrox), Mr Mduduzi, Mrs Lesego Nzimande (alumni), Suresh Mohanlal from Ikhwezi Bus Services. Alumnus and donor, Mr Chris Djuma, Zothini Ndimande (alumni), and Siphosihle Shange, a bursary recipient.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?  

A: “I am a Coordinator for Work Integrated Learning in the Department of Public Management, Law & Economics at DUT Midlands. I am responsible for experiential learning placements and work preparedness of our students.
