Public Invited to "Dressing in the Dakotas" at North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum

BISMARCK, N.D. – “Dressing in the Dakotas,” a program by Tom Chase, museum interpreter, and Michele Renner, a Bismarck-area costumer/designer, will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. The event is free and open to the public.

The two collaborated on clothing Chase will wear as he interacts with visitors in the State Museum on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 4. Renner will describe replica historical outfits modeled by Tom Chase and Taryn Chase, engaging the audience in conversation about fashion, function, style, and dress in the 19th and 20th centuries. Created by Renner, the costumes are reflective of what people would have worn at varying times in North Dakota history. Both this program and the historical outfits were developed to support the "Fashion & Function: North Dakota Style" exhibit at the State Museum.

This event is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota's Sensational Sundays series. Sensational Sundays are free cultural programs that include a variety of lectures, concerts, movies, and tours. For more information, contact Curator of Education Erik Holland at 701.328.2792. Funding for this program is provided through an American Recovery Plan grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts.

The North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. For information about additional upcoming events, visit history.nd.gov/events.
