I Support Building a Better Food System
You have probably enjoyed some wonderful times around the table with family and friends over these last several holiday weeks. From Thanksgiving to the year’s end, we are so fortunate to have the plenty that America’s food system gives us to celebrate.

But that’s not the circumstance for everyone. Far from it.

Over 32 million Americans are food insecure, which means they aren’t sure where their next meal is coming from. Shockingly, alongside this reality is the fact that about 35% of food in the U.S. goes uneaten. Cutting that in half could provide 4 billion additional meals annually to community and food relief programs, getting food onto the plates of families that need it. Americans waste more food per capita than any other country in the world, and we see that as a problem that must be addressed. 

At ReFED, we work every day to assure that we reduce food loss and waste to use food for its highest and best good―giving nutrition, and ultimately health, to people. But we can’t do this work without your help.

Supporting the food loss and waste movement is the one thing you can do that offers the most co-benefits systemically. First, it addresses the climate crisis by affecting methane production and reducing our waste streams. It assures better uses of our soil and water resources, conservation of land and native ecosystems, and continuing biodiversity. On the business front, it generates better bottom-line results for food businesses from the farm to the fork. It helps gets healthy, nutritious food into the hands of people who need it, especially the 32 million Americans who are food insecure. 

ReFED is the national nonprofit organization committed to fighting food loss and waste to secure a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food system. We work at the systems level to drive the change needed to reach the goal of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030.
