Growing into 2022

a note from Janie Whiteford, Board President

As another year and farming season come to a close, Common Roots Farm has much to be thankful for. This year has seen growth in our customer base, our staffing, our farming acumen and our infrastructure. We served 50 customers for 19 weeks with fresh produce and floral bouquets. Farm Manager Nina and her team did an outstanding job providing fresh fruit and vegetables to our community and we are grateful for such loyal customers.  Our product line of jams, shrubs, cocktail mixes and pepper sauces is now up to a whopping 13 items!  We’re thrilled to see our products fly off our shelves to be shared in kitchens and homes across the country. It’s very exciting!

We also hired a new Engagement Manager to develop and expand our volunteer program. Geoff Palla has joined our team and you can hear more from him in our upcoming newsletter as he makes plans to further advance our mission.

Perhaps more than at any other point in our lifetime, the need for interpersonal connections, for experiences in nature, and for meaningful engagement is in sharp relief. Common Roots Farm aims to offer just such opportunities to our community.  We value our ability to be a local, trusted food source and to offer our volunteers and participants the beauty and restorative power of nature on this unique urban farm.

Our plans for the future are only growing, too.

Our farm team has identified our wishlist below. If you find yourself able to donate to us, we commit to invest every contribution thoughtfully as we bring farmers of all abilities together to grow healthy food, beautiful flowers, and build relationships that sustain us all.
