Thank You For Volunteering With Greenways!

Close to 8,000 volunteer hours for the CR community

Volunteers go above and beyond; they donate their time, their hands, their minds, and their passion for the better of the community! The Greenways volunteer demographics are perfectly diverse. Our busy bees come in all ages, from toddlers to seniors, all sharing a hands-on mentality and an infectious enthusiasm for our natural spaces and food security. Our Greenways volunteers are precious to us and an inspiration every day we get to work together!

Here's to YOU! We are over the moon grateful for having you on board!
* YOU are maintaining trails in the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands,
* YOU rock our Willow Creek Conservation Area,
* YOU help us plant seedlings of the endangered Deltoid Balsamroot on the Tyee Spit,
* YOU are ears and eyes for a local stream & support salmon enhancement,
* YOU have supported our Fruit Tree Project,
* YOU have supported our work with School District 72 students and teachers,
* YOU have removed massive amounts of invasive plant species,
* YOU have planted large numbers of native trees and shrubs,
* YOU are a Greenways Director and help support the backbone of our organization,
* YOU help bring good food boxes to the community you live in,
* YOU keep our community gardens and food forests in bloom and gardeners happy,
* YOU ALL made this past year a better one by being YOU & engaging with us!

Restoration through Collaboration

Willow Creek Conservation Area

Greenways’ volunteers and over 400 school students have joined forces with Greenways Land Trust and the West Coast Conservation Land Management Program to restore an area of Willow Creek Conservation Area (WCCA) in Campbell River. Together we planted over 1100 native trees and shrubs, placed bark mulch and logs, and installed a split rail fence in an area near the Martin Road entrance.

The goal of the project is to restore and protect an area that has experienced significant soil erosion and impacts to fish habitat. The restoration efforts will greatly reduce sedimentation into Willow Creek which can otherwise suffocate juvenile salmon and salmon eggs.

Greenways Land Trust has also compiled the
'Good Creek Neighbour Guide'
to inform on how we can all do our part to protect valuable fish and wildlife habitat.
