📅 A youth-made mental health guide and how to help the Salvation Army

And we’ve got good news to share for the whole Seattle art, music, and sports scene.

🎶 Capitol Hill Block Party announced yesterday that its bringing its music festivities back for 2022. Tickets to the three-day festival are on sale now, but the lineup is TBA.

⚽ The OL Reign, Seattle’s professional women’s soccer team, is moving back to Seattle from Tacoma. They will be calling Lumen Field home for the 2022 season.

🎬 The Sundance Film Festival is coming back to Seattle at the Northwest Film Forum, and just dropped its 2022 line-up. The festival is set for Jan. 20-30, and will also be streamed virtually.

🔔 The Salvation Army needs your help. It’s facing a shortage of toys and donations, which are important during the holiday season and even more so with the pandemic increasing the number of families the nonprofit is trying to serve. They’re also seeking bell ringers to staff the red kettles stationed outside businesses around the country. (Q13 Fox)

🍔 The Eastside is officially home to a Dick’s Drive-In. The chain will celebrate its eighth location with a grand opening including a pop-up apparel shop, a DJ set, and the Sammamish High School band and cheer team. Oh, and of course, all the burgers, fries, and shakes you could ever need. It’s all happening today at Crossroads Mall, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Seattle PI)

📔 A group of young Seattleites is taking their mental health into their own hands. Young people in King County Public Health’s Social Media Ambassadors and Soar Youth Programs have partnered with the Seattle Times Education Lab to create a multicultural mental health guide for teens. The guide includes a long list of mental health services and treatments, in addition to an outline of what to expect when they reach out. Schools, counseling centers, and other youth services can access the guide as a downloadable PDF. (KNKX)

💬 A year ago, instances of racism at Seattle Children’s Hospital came to light when beloved physician Dr. Ben Danielson resigned. One year later employees are sharing their experiences working at the hospital in 2021. Despite Seattle Children’s issuing an “Anti-Racism Action Plan,” several of the staff believe the hospital has not done enough to address the racism present in hospital leadership, patient care, treatment of staff, and beyond. 💰 Back in February of this year, Seattle passed a hazard pay ordinance establishing a $4 increase in hourly pay for grocery employees. Now, the Seattle City Council has passed a bill seeking to establish an end date for that hazard pay, and more cities around Western Washington are doing the same. The ordinance will end 30 days after the bill is signed into law, which could be as early as February 2022. (King 5)
