In December 2014, the city's first protected bike lane was installed on King Street. It's used daily by Biki riders and cyclists, and gives residents more options to travel safely while avoiding parking or traffic congestion. Officials say the project has resulted in a 50% reduction in pedestrian-vehicle collisions, and a 65% decrease in the number of bikes on the sidewalk. The success of the King Street Protected Bike Lane over the last 7 years has led to an increase in the number of people who are willing and able to bike, and has resulted in the installation of several more bike lanes throughout the city.
