Happy Holidays!
Happy Holidays from Children First Canada!

Thank you for joining our efforts to put children first this past year. Our work would not be possible without caring partners, donors and supporters – just like you. Whether you spread the word on social media about the crisis facing kids or gave generously to our research efforts, your contributions made a lasting difference. Together, we amplified the voices of children and youth and made history.

Here are some highlights from 2021:

  • We declared #codePINK – a term used for pediatric emergencies – calling on government leaders to take immediate action to address the crisis facing kids during the pandemic.
  • The Raising Canada 2021 report shed light on how COVID-19 has exacerbated the top 10 threats to childhood.
  • We hosted the largest National Child Day event in history, with more than 8,000 people registered.
  • With the support of CFC and other organizations, a group of Canadian children and youth filed a court challenge to lower the federal voting age. This opens the possibility that youth could cast a ballot in the next federal election.

  • The federal government announced major commitments to kids in Canada through the new mandate letters for cabinet ministers. Many of the commitments respond directly to the concerns raised in our recent Raising Canada report and the Children's Platform in our #VoteForOurFuture campaign.

As we look ahead to 2022, let’s continue to dream big for all 8 million kids in Canada!

Double your impact!
Give a meaningful gift
Do you want to give a gift that really counts? This month, our Board Chair Gail O’Brien is matching all donations made to CFC, up to a maximum of $25,000! That means every $50 will turn into $100 to double the impact on kids. COVID-19 led to devastating effects on the mental and physical health of children. Kids are in crisis. Your donation will support the urgent needs of children through research and advocacy so Canadians can take action!

New federal commitments to make Canada the best place in the world for kids to grow up!

Last week's release of mandate letters for federal cabinet ministers included significant commitments to improve the lives of children.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Ensuring that the voices and needs of children are represented in the government’s agenda and working to make Canada the best place in the world to grow up.
  • Ensuring that mental health supports are accessible to children and youth as they recover from the impacts of the pandemic.
  • Developing a National School Food Policy and working toward a national school nutritious meal program.

Children First Canada welcomes these strong commitments and looks forward to working with the government to ensure that they are actioned quickly.
