DUT STUDENTS EXCEL AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN SOCIETY FOR MICROBIOLOGY-KZN SYMPOSIUM
Two Durban University of Technology (DUT) Biotechnology students, Ms Cherise Elisha and Mr Buka Magwaza, recently obtained first position in sessions A and B, respectively, at the 34th Annual South African Society for Microbiology (SASM)-KZN Symposium.
The SASM-KZN Symposium is an annual event held at the end of each year for Microbiology and Biotechnology honours students from KwaZulu-Natal, where their research projects presentations are evaluated and judged by various experts in the field.
DUT’S COVID-19 RESPONSE TASK TEAM HOSTS WEBINAR ON THE OMICRON VARIANT, AND WHAT DUT IS DOING ABOUT COVID-19
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) COVID-19 Response Task Team hosted a webinar on COVID-19: Crucial Conversations on Microsoft Teams on Thursday, 8 December 2021.
Experts in the field at the webinar spoke on what it’s really like in a COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Discussions also pertained to the new Omicron variant, and what is not yet known, as well as what DUT is doing about COVID-19.
DUT HEALTH SCIENCES ALUMNUS, MR AVELA MJAJUBANA APPOINTED AS A MEMBER OF THE NEW NATIONAL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (NYDA) BOARD
The Faculty of Health Sciences Alumnus, Mr Avela Mjajubana has made DUT proud by being appointed by the South African President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa as one of the seven members of the new board of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA). The new NYDA board was selected in terms of Section 9 of the National Development Agency Act 54 of 2008.
As stipulated in the Act, Ramaphosa appointed seven board members from the 17 names recommended by the National Assembly. The other members consist of young leaders who have made a name for themselves in youth development namely: Ms Asanda Luwaca, Ms Karabo Mohale, Ms Lebo Mulaisi, Mr Thulisa Ndlela, Ms Pearl Pillay and Ms Alexandria Procter.
ICT STUDENT SELECTED AS IBM Z AMBASSADOR ON GLOBAL NETWORK
The IMB Z Ambassador, Ms Lepepeule Maanaso, a third-year Information and Communications Technology: Applications Development student at the Durban University of Technology was recently part of a global group hosting a virtual event on Enterprise Computing.
Maanaso (21), the tech-enthusiast with an ‘always learning’ spirit and motivation recently joined the IMB Z Ambassador Programme, which is powered by IMB Z and facilitated by Your Big Year.
