The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc with global supply chains, forcing governments to consider strategies focused on strengthening food security. In Nova Scotia, increasing local food consumption and decreasing reliance on imports are provincial priorities. New Provincial mandates aim to see local food purchases reach 20% by 2030. Dr. Marcia English, associate professor of human nutrition at St. Francis Xavier, joins Research over Coffee today to discuss these goals, the current status of local food consumption the barriers and opportunities to strengthening our local food security.
