Congratulations December 2021 MCB Graduates!

Congratulations to Erika Haws who received the December 2021 MCB Outstanding Senior award

MCB undergraduate Erika Haws received the December 2021 MCB Outstanding Senior award for her research on Arabidopsis thaliana. She is investigating how plants initiate lateral root growth by looking at different knockout mutants to see the response. Read more about Erika Haws' work in Dr. Frans Tax's lab on the MCB website.

MCB Alumnus working as a crime scene specialist

Chris Nelson got a job as a Crime Scene Specialist for the City of Mesa thanks to many of the skills that he learned during his time as a MCB student. Read more about his journey and experiences on the MCB website.
MCB Faculty Publications
Professor Guang Yao and PostDoc Xia Wang, along with their co-authors, have a paper published in Journal of Clinical Investigation titled "Group IIA secreted phospholipase A2 is associated with the pathobiology leading to COVID-19 mortality." Read the article.

Dr. Solange Duhamel and her co-authors also have a publication in Scientific Reports titled "Small pigmented eukaryote assemblages of the western tropical North Atlantic around the Amazon River plume during spring discharge." Read the article.

Professor Molly Bolger, Grad Students Lexie Cooper and Jordan Osness, and colleague have a paper published in CBE: Life Sciences Education titled "Supporting Scientific Practice through Model-Based Inquiry: A Students’-Eye View of Grappling with Data, Uncertainty, and Community in a Laboratory Experience.' MCB Faculty Grants
Congratulations to MCB faculty who recently received research grants!

George Sutphin, Assistant Professor, received a Catalyst Award from the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). Topic: A platform for identifying synergistic longevity interventions.

Daniela Zarnescu, Professor, has received a new grant from the DOD: Therapeutic Idea Award that is designed to promote new ideas aimed at drug or treatment discovery that are still in the early stages of development.
