Continued Community Health

Happy New Year! We are looking forward to a year of health and well being for our entire school community. Our partnership working together will continue, and we appreciate our collective efforts.

You may have read the news stories over break regarding Covid-19 and the Omicron variant, as well as changes to the CDC guidelines for quarantine. The Gardner School has followed the guidelines for Washington schools since the beginning of the pandemic, and have been able to serve children with minimal interruptions as a result. The current guidelines for Washington schools have not changed. We will communicate any changes if there is an update to the Washington State/DOH guidelines that impact our community at that time.

Vaccinations continue to be the best protection for our community and we are thankful that many children ages 5+ are now fully vaccinated! Another important aspect of community health is to keep symptomatic children home and to communicate with our health@gardnerschool.org email for directions about when and how to return to school. Keeping an at-home test available for your child is recommended to help your child return to school sooner. Read below for more suggestions for how your family can help support the work our school is doing to stay open and in-person as we re-enter after the holidays.

Covid Vaccination Survey

Whether or not your child is currently vaccinated against Covid-19, please complete this survey so we can cross-check records from the state for accuracy. This data is important for us to have in case of any close contacts.

Detecting Covid Early
Testing

Covid testing is recommended if in the past 5-7 days your child has:
- participated in unmasked indoor gatherings
- travelled via public transit like airplanes, buses, or trains
- exhibited any of the symptoms on our Remini screening app

If your child has had any symptoms or been in close contact to a Covid-19 positive person in the past 5-7 days, please email health@gardnerschool.org for return to school guidance.

Increasing Protection
Mask Fit

Mask wearing is an important mitigation strategy, and experts are suggesting upgrading from cloth masks to KN95s, KN94s, or other approved masks. Our school has several of these options to offer students and staff, but parents should find options that fit their child best.

Please review your child's mask fit, and send them with masks that work well for them. A well-fitted mask is required, and parents will be contacted if their child's mask is not fitting appropriately.

News from the PTO
Our monthly PTO meeting has been moved to next week, Wednesday, January 12th at 9:30 am on Zoom. We will be looking ahead to the next three months, and we'd love to hear your ideas! The PTO supports projects around the school, including volunteer opportunities, teacher appreciation, and classroom support.

Facilities Spotlight
Improvements and Updates
We are making progress on several larger facilities projects around campus this year! The Farmhouse received a new roof thanks to Soto Brothers Roofing over the summer, and they will be installing a new metal roof on our main building soon.

Thank you to Drainage Masters for their work in the Imagination Playground, helping take care of our playground drainage, and to Arbor Science Tree Care for removing two large poplar trees from our entrance road. Additionally, our water heaters were serviced and replaced thanks to H20 Plumbing. These facilities improvements make a big difference for the long-term strength of our campus, ensuring a safe and welcoming learning and working environment.
Re-Enrollment News
Reminders for Currently Enrolled Families
Currently enrolled families do not need to submit another application or application fee in order to secure their currently enrolled child's spot for the 22-23 school year.

However, if you are applying for the sibling of a currently enrolled child, you will need to submit that application by February 1st for priority enrollment. This is also the deadline for any tuition assistance applications. Any questions can be sent to admissions@gardnerschool.org

Do you know a child who would benefit from the Gardner School? Share your story with their family, and encourage them to contact us for a tour! Your referrals are appreciated!
