Hey, I’m Alyson, and I also run our Twitter and Instagram. This week, we're saying goodbye to Ian Lecklitner, discussing how to get paid back, and introducing some boundary-pushing performers.

MONEY TROUBLES

Is anything more humiliating than haggling with friends over money? It’s awkward to feel like you’re keeping score in the relationship, but sometimes you really need your 10 bucks back. While, yes, Venmo exists to allegedly make this easier, Rax King points out that it’s not a foolproof method:

“Venmo simplified things inasmuch as we no longer needed to do such elaborate exchanges in the moment. We could take our time calculating the exact quantities we owed and pay them later. But even Venmo can’t take the sting out of perceived lapses in debt etiquette. It makes it easier to pay debts, not to negotiate them.”

There are no straightforward rules about how to handle this negotiation, but King has gone through it enough times that she has a few anecdotes and guidelines to share.

PUSHING BOUNDARIES

  • Siri Dahl is a powerlifting porn star who uses her strength both in the gym and on set. Ian Douglass interviewed Dahl about bulking up, her powerlifting goals and her dream gym porn scene.

  • The idea of a “gigolo” has transformed over the years, typically evolving with the mainstream idea of masculinity writ large. And today, gigolos are very much on the vanguard of modern masculinity. Brit Dawson profiled three such sex workers who very much embody the new era of male escorts.

FAREWELL, IAN!

Ian Lecklitner has been a MEL staff writer for nearly seven years. And while he’ll be leaving us for less horny pastures, his output and impact on the site is undeniable. For starters, he has written over 1,300 posts — a site record and still 300 more than the next highest contributor.
