The perfect gift for book lovers...

...if we do say so ourselves! 😌

Yes, that's right, you can finally gift StoryGraph Plus! 🙌🏾

We all know the stress of buying gifts for the reader in your life. Have they read this one already? Do they still like that kind of book? Did I spot this one on their shelves last time? 🤔

Instead of worrying, why not gift a year of insightful statistics, unlimited recommendations, suggestions on what to read next, and more?

A screenshot of The StoryGraph's Up Next Suggestions feature. There are three sections on the page. Each has a big book cover on the left and some text on the right. The top row shows the cover of The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry and the text on the right reads: Need more of what you just read? We think you'll love this one. Above is a yellow badge with text that reads "Powered by machine learning". Underneath is a green button labelled "Add to Up Next".
Our machine-learning powered Up Next Suggestions feature comes as part of Plus, where we help you choose what to read next from your to-read list!

We've made gifting Plus fast and hassle-free — you don't even need a StoryGraph account!

Once purchased, you’ll instantly be emailed a redemption code that you can print or forward to your recipient.

Any last-minute shoppers out there? We got you! 😌

A screenshot of StoryGraph's redeem gift page. It's in two halves. To the right, is a collage of book covers. On the left is a one-field form. Above the field is the following text in white: Redeem your Plus Gift Subscription. There is a placeholder in the field which reads "Enter code...". A white button underneath the field reads "Redeem".
Psst. If you’re the bookworm who’s impossible to buy for, forward this email to family or friends. 😉

Since last time...

A lot more progress has been made with buddy reads, but there's still a way to go!

A screenshot of StoryGraph's upcoming buddy reads feature. There is a subtitle top left in green reading: Buddy read. The main title is the name of the book: Miss Treadway and the Field of Stars. Underneath that reads: Hosted by nadia. Ends Thursday, 30 December 2022. Then there are five white panes in a grid in two rows, 3 on top, 2 below. Each pane features a profile picture and a username alongside it. From left to right, top row and then bottom row, the panes read: 1. nadia, followed by a green progress bar, filled up to a third, with the label 34% alongside it. 2. reader77, Book not started 3. readingissoawesome, followed by a green progress bar, filled up to a tenth, with the label 9% alongside it. 4. rob, Invitation sent 5. fresh_boooks, Invitation sent
A screenshot of what comments on buddy reads will look like. At the top is a progress bar. Its background is grey, and it's filled with green for almost a fifth of it. To the right of the progress bar reads '17%, 62 pages' in green. Underneath, are a series of comments, with the user's profile picture and username alongside it. There is one comment at the top saying "Not sure how I feel about that chapter ending!". Underneath are three replies, which are indented on the page. They express their opinion on the first comment. Underneath each comment are 'Reply' links. Some have a 'Delete' link underneath. At the bottom of the screenshot is a green button with white text which reads "Add comment".

I'm very excited for the machine learning-powered extras we'll be adding. Don't have anyone to buddy read with? Fear not! We'll help with that!  And for Plus users, you tell us the people you want to do a buddy read with and we'll suggest the best books for the group!

In community news, we had our first ever StoryGraph Book Club live show. We discussed The House of the Spirits and the author herself, the legend that is Isabel Allende, joined and answered all of our questions! 🤩

Still from the Instagram live show with me and Isabel Allende. To the left the still is split into two horizontally. On the top, I'm looking into the camera with a big smile on my face. On the bottom is Isabel Allende. She's also smiling. To the right is the StoryGraph's caption against the video alongside some comments from other users expressing their love for Isabel and the show.
If you've read The House of the Spirits, or don't care about spoilers, definitely check out the show!

Next two weeks

Well, the next issue of this newsletter will be published on January 3rd, soooo, based on what I said last time, the following has to be true:
  • Our 2022 reading challenges are live (hopefully launching these on Wednesday!)
  • Users are taking part in buddy reads in-app!
  • People are participating in our January Pages Challenge
  • Users can archive their reading challenges
I'll be reviewing our progress against this list next time! 😅

What I'm reading right now

I decided to pick up the critically acclaimed I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara. I've only heard great things over the years and am about halfway through now. Absolutely chilling.
Book pane from StoryGraph of Michelle McNamara's I'll Be Gone in the Dark. To the left is the book cover, which features a house in darkness. Inside the book pane features the book's title and author. Underneath and tags in green and red reading: nonfiction, true crime, challenging, dark, informative, slow-paced. The book is listed as having 416 pages and being published in 2018. There is a grey 'Track progress' button and I've marked the book as 'currently reading'.

Have a great week and happy holidays,

Nadia

P.S. Know somebody who's an avid reader or would enjoy following along with this journey? Please do forward this email to them! Thank you. :-)
