Dear Friends,

On this day of the Winter Solstice as 2021 draws to a close, we want to continue our tradition of updating you at the solstices and equinoxes on the exciting progress of the food resource navigator project. But we will no longer call it that…

We want to introduce you to Community Food Navigator, the official name of the project. This name—and much behind the scenes work with the Navigator’s community stewards—is preparing us for a public launch early in 2022. Reaching this stage of the project’s development would not have been possible without your thoughts, suggestions, observations, and good thinking. Thank you.

We are working alongside the Community Food Navigator’s stewards to set the project's goals and priorities for 2022. There are so many opportunities for increased connection in Chicago’s food system, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic enters its third year and we seek to build upon and strengthen the collaborations that have already begun.

We are grateful for the leadership of Community Food Navigator’s stewards in shaping our central focus on addressing the food inequities faced by Black, Brown, and Indigenous growers, food producers, advocates, and organizers.

Early next year, we are excited to share Community Food Navigator's initial tools and methods for connectivity, resource access, and visibility—organized into a few focused areas—to receive your impressions and feedback.

Meanwhile, enjoy this season and the beginning of a new year. Community Food Navigator would not be possible without your generosity and guidance.

Best wishes,

Erika Allen, Francia Harrington, and Margot Pritzker
