Too cold? Maybe, maybe not.
NCC - Northampton Cycling Club

December 2021 Newsletter

Happy Holidays NCC Member!

Hard to believe another year has rolled on by, ongoing mask-wearing and all. It probably wasn't the year we were all hoping for, but we got to ride together in-person again, and that was awesome. Hopefully you made it to at least one. Now that the sun isn't up until 7:00 and it's dark again by 4:30, we're all spending more time on our trainers and various virtual simulations, and there are a bunch of Club activities on Zwift that you can participate in from the comfort of your own trainer.

Zwift Rides

After a busy fall Zwifting, our Winter session will get rolling again once the January starts.

Tuesday 6:00 PM - Hill Climb
Wednesday 8:00 PM - Club Ride
Thursday (time varies) - NCC Road Race
Saturday 9:00 AM - Club Ride

Keep an eye on the Ride Calendar. The Thursday night race times can shift around a bit, but they're usually between 5:00-7:00 PM. Other rides - inside and outside - will sporadically show up, too, so check back often. If you're interested in joining a Zwift ride, check the discussion board or a calendar for sign up links for each ride.

For a full run-down on Zwift Rides, check out our web page. Don't forget to read up on our Zwift Guide, too!

New Year's Day Temperature Ride!

We're not really sure who thought it was a good idea in the first place, but once upon a time, someone started it and we haven't stopped yet. The idea is that a bunch of knuckleheads get together at Pulaski Park in Northampton at noon on New Year's Day, and whatever the temperature is, that's how long the ride is. If it's 3 degrees, you ride 3 miles; if it's 30 degrees, it's a 30-mile ride. If it's below zero and you're a quantum physicist, get in touch and let us know how we can ride negative miles.

Typically the temperature has been between 30F and 40F, but who really knows what normal is anymore. Come be a knucklehead and ring in 2022 with us!

Massochistah Emerges Once Again!

Registration is open for Massochistah 2022! Painfully grind your way up the roughest "roads" the Pioneer Valley has to offer. Say goodbye to your knees on any one of the ridiculous routes that are sure to make you question your judgement. And for what? A rad party and wicked good time. After your ride, take your sore, mud-caked self to enjoy beer and food in the one and only Ashfield Lake House, and ask, "Was it worth it?" You already know what the answer will be.

This is a super-popular event and will sell out. So Register Today! It also makes a great gift, if that's your thing...just throwing that out there...

AND! If you're an NCC Member, log-in here to get a code for 10% off.

Racer Rewards and Junior Grants

Racer Rewards: If you're a competitive rider (as in, "participates in competition," regardless of podium standing), you could be eligible to earn money from the NCC! If you wore the 2021 jersey and/or represented the Club in a race, or volunteered at a Club event, you might qualify for a reward. Check out the Racer Rewards page for full details and an application.

Junior Equipment Grants: This is one of our favorite things about our Club. Riders from ages 10-18 can apply for grants to support Road and Cyclocross equipment purchases. It's a great way to get kids on bikes and involved in cycling. Learn more about this awesome program, or fill out an application on the Junior Grants page.

Thank you for joining us for another weird year! We'll see you on Zwift and on New Year's Day.
