Recent publicly available data released as at 10 January 2022 by the Australian Government indicate vaccination rates are lagging across Aboriginal communities in Western Australia.
As WA prepares for border reopening those who are unvaccinated and are immunocompromised are at the greatest risk. Check out these helpful resources to use for your local campaigns.

$1 Million Dollar Boost for Local Government Childcare Workforce
|
|
Over the past 18 months WALGA has worked closely with the Department of Communities to inform the scope and delivery of the Regional Child Package. In September, 2020 WALGA facilitated a webinar with our Members and the Department of Communities to gain direct insights into the development of the grant guidelines which are now open to Local Government.
Some Local Governments are childcare providers themselves, whereas in other contexts may work together with external providers and community groups in supporting child care arrangements.
Barriers to meeting the childcare needs of local communities in regional areas include undersupply of qualified educators, staff turnover and options for accommodation for child care workers, and all of these barriers have been further amplified with the impacts of the pandemic and border restrictions.
The grant funding arrangements will allow Local Government to seek to redress some of these barriers in easing training, relocation and accommodation opportunities to attract and retain staff.
