Funding Opportunities
Small-Scale Climate Change Fund.
Atlantic Canada faces unique and difficult challenges as climate change progresses. This targeted funding opportunity is intended to support short term, rapid initiatives which will advance identification, development and/or adoption of genomics tools that lead to solutions that help to combat climate change.

Research Nova Scotia partnered with Genome Atlantic to help provide a foundation for Atlantic Canadian stakeholders to pursue subsequent larger scale Climate Change funding initiatives.

Research contributions may range from $5,000 - $20,000 and applications are open until February 14, 2022.

Episode 5, Beyond Research Podcast:
Predicted Sea Level Rise.

Nova Scotia and its 13,300 km of coastline is home to many coastal communities. Of these communities, some are already facing the impacts of changing sea levels, storm surges and climate change firsthand. In this episode you'll hear from leading researchers who are helping us better understand, plan, and prepare for rising sea levels in Nova Scotia. First, we explore coastal flood risk mapping and how it can help us gain a deeper understanding of how future scenarios will likely play out on our shorelines. Then, we look at the ways we can use this information to better plan and adapt to the world as it will be in the coming decades.

Listen as we explore how sea level rise has affected our province  and propose collaborative approaches to mitigate the impacts on our communities, our industries, and our way of life.

Working Together.

Over the last couple of years, RNS has pursued a mission-oriented research strategy to tackle big, complex challenges in Nova Scotia. This strategy starts with what we want to accomplish, and builds a research agenda and coalition of partners to help achieve these goals. By focusing on the goal, we can support many different types of ideas all seeking to find common ground: science and social science, fundamental and applied research can each play a role.
As a province, we face many grand challenges; equally, we are rich in resources, assets and expertise that can grab hold of opportunities. But we cannot do it alone: we need creative and collaborative partners, researchers, and uptake organizations who are willing to work together to find solutions.

Our Strategy
UVC Light Study Newsletter Volume 1, Issue 1

Investing in high quality and safe solutions for long-term care facilities is an important healthy aging strategy in Nova Scotia and around the world. That is why researchers are exploring whether UV lights installed in long-term care facilities will reduce influenza-like illnesses, respiratory infections, and COVID-19 infections among residents.

Supported by Research Nova Scotia and designed by Nova Scotia Health, this $1.7 million project is one of 22 COVID-related research projects funded by the organization since March 2020. Read the latest on their work in their first addition of the UVC Light Study Newsletter.
