2021 NCCP Graduates
In the last 12 months, members from across the province connected and shared their sport leadership experiences through the NCCP training process and a record number of coaches achieved NCCP certified status.

This means that 36 of the 63 NCCP certificates awarded in cycling coaching have been achieved over the past 24 months with 56 Cycling BC members holding certified status.

Coach Insight: Jay Lamoureux

Jay Lamoureux's contributions to Team Canada helped the men's Team Pursuit squad develop into one of the top programs in the world. Jay is now switching his power meter in for a clipboard and joining our coaching community.

To support his transition, Jay applied for a coach development grant from Cycling BC and in December 2021 achieved his NCCP Competition-Introduction certification. Jay is now ready to lead an age-group program as a Club Head Coach.

"I really enjoyed the coach training and certification experience with Cycling BC. Not only has the teaching and material been fantastic but the ability to talk to and work through challenging scenarios with other new coaches has been a great opportunity. The process helped me acknowledge my strengths and assess areas I wish to develop.

My light bulb moment occurred at the outdoor NCCP Basic Skills clinic where we used the theoretical concepts for the first time and practiced teaching cycling skills. Being taught face to face and having an opportunity to practice, fail, and learn is how I retain knowledge the best, I realized a few things...

  • The coach is responsible for establishing the learning environment.
  • It's okay for instructors to have fun and be a little goofy if it helps create engaging and fun spaces.
  • Happy and engaged participants create a learning environment that breeds excellent performances.
These are lessons I am excited to say have made me a better coach."

Reminder: SafeSport Updates
To help our membership experience high-quality learning experiences at all program levels, Cycling BC's SafeSport and Coach Excellence Policy has been updated, effective April 1st, 2022.

As announced this past autumn, all sports leaders who attend or lead youth club practices, or adult learn-to-ride clinics are expected to hold a YELLOW certificate.

This is designed to ensure our leaders abide by the Responsible Coaches Movement, have a clear background check, and can competently teach skills in their cycle sport of choice.

Depending on your current status, upgrading your accreditation may be as simple as completing two on-demand eLearning modules ($12) or taking further NCCP training and certification.

Over the coming 4 weeks, Cycling BC will be reaching out on an individual basis to help you achieve your certificate. If you have questions in the meantime, please email us at coaching@cyclingbc.net or set up a phone call

Congratulations Joel! Thank you for your contributions to the cycling community!
