Not the Kansas City Royals. Not our beloved TFA Royals. And certainly not the Royals of Buckingham Palace. I’m talking about the kind of royalty that is everlasting.
We may not have the horse-drawn carriage and all the pomp and circumstance, but our school year theme Imago Dei is all about royalty. If He is King and we are His children, that makes us pretty special! If we are created in His image, that means we are treasured by the God who formed us out of dust.
The Bible says, “So, God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). The Psalmist wrote, “The heavens are the Lord’s, but the earth He has given to the children of man” (Psalm 115:16). And God’s word says you are royalty because you are “crowned with glory and honor” (Psalm 8:5). Imagine that!
The Hebrew word translated “image” in Genesis 1:27 is used elsewhere in the Bible to mean a statue. “You aren’t a literal statue of God. He has no form, no edges, no limits. But you are His image-bearer (mine) as you think like Him and love like Him and stand up for Him” (Ray Ortland).
So here’s our challenge for today: Let’s live like royalty! When the world pulls us down, when the enemy condemns us, and when life exhausts us, we can stand up and claim the name of Jesus. We can be “strong and courageous, never afraid or discouraged, because God has promised to be with us wherever we go” (Joshua 1:9). We are His!
