Sun shines after Cyclone Tiffany brings heavy rain

THE Bureau of Meteorology says no significant rainfall is forecast for the next few days. The recent heavy rainfall (see photos below) is a good reminder that we are in cyclone season which can result in local flooding to streets, yards and in extreme events - homes.

Rainfall totals for the 72-hour period to 9am on Wednesday 12 January 2022:

Bloomfield Track Closure – January 2022

Douglas Shire Council will be concreting a narrow section of the Bloomfield Track which will require a temporary closure between Luana Creek through to the Zig Zag Road turn-off.

Dune Rehabilitation At Highway Beach

A STRETCH of coastline which has suffered significant erosion got new dune fencing, pedestrian access and revegetation this week.

Daintree Ferry Temporary Closure - May 2022

The Daintree ferry service will cease at 10pm on Friday 6 May 2022 and resume at 5am on Monday 9 May 2022.

Tell Us What You Think – Telecommunications At Wonga Beach

MORE than 100 people have already responded to a survey about home internet service in Wonga Beach. Douglas Shire Council and  NBN Co. are building a case to apply for Federal Funding to upgrade telecommunications in the beach suburb.

ROAD WORKS || Scaling & removal of loose rocks on Captain Cook Highway

THE Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will commence slope remediation works at the Captain Cook Highway, between Wangetti Beach Road and Turtle Cove from Monday 17 January 2022, weather permitting.

TIMBER pile fields will help to protect the Mossman River and two of its bridges this wet season.

Council Works Highlights

  • Biosecurity team has been working closely with a private property owner in the Whyanbeel Valley to treat a large Thumbergia vine site.
  • Crews continue to carry out regular maintenance works and clear following the aftermath of  Tropical Cyclone Tiffany.
  • Headstocks for the Sagiba Avenue pedestrian bridge were poured prior to Christmas and will be installed next week, weather permitting.
