1. NYC’s Take-Two Interactive, publisher of the Grand Theft Auto series, is buying mobile game company Zynga, publisher of Farmville, for $12.7 billion. Both companies are publicly traded. The purchase will be funded by $2.7 billion in financing from JPMorgan with the remainder paid from existing cash and the proceeds of a new debt offering. (www.take2games.com) (www.zygna.com) (CNBC)

2. NYC’s ODDITY, a technology platform that owns direct-to-consumer beauty brand Il Makiage, has raised $130 million in a private equity round at a $1.5 billion valuation. Investors included Franklin Templeton, Fidelity Management & Research Company and First Light Capital Group. The company’s platform, which leverages data science, machine learning and computer vision to deliver state-of-the-art online experiences for consumers, is used by its own brands and over 25 million users. 3. NYC’s Human Security, a cybersecurity platform for enterprises, has raised $100 million in a growth equity funding. WestCap led the round and was joined by NightDragon. Human Security, which rebranded from White Ops last year, offers various products designed to protect applications and ads from malicious bots. (www.humansecurity.com) (VentureBeat)

4. Roku has leased 240,000 square feet at 5 Times Square. Roku’s NYC presence is expanding so quickly that the company added an additional 100,000 square feet to the lease while it was being negotiated. 5. NYC’s Taptap Send, a no fee cross-border money transfer platform, has raised $65 million in a Series B funding. The round was led by Spark Capital and joined by Unbound, Canaan Partners, Slow Ventures, Breyer Capital, Wamda Capital and Flourish Ventures. The company currently covers 20 countries for receiving money including Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. (www.taptapsend.com) (TechCrunch)

6. NYC’s Opensea, an NFT marketplace, has raised $300 million in a Series C funding at a $13.3 billion valuation. The round was led by Paradigm and Coatue. OpenSea had more than $2.4 billion in NFT transaction volume in the past 30 days. (www.opensea.io) (TechCrunch)

7. Mobile sports betting has became legal in NY. At 9:01 am on January 8th, four casino operators — Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, NYC's FanDuel and Rush Street Interactive — started to take bets placed from inside of NY. (New York Post)

8. NYC’s CLEAR, a secure identity platform, has acquired NYC’s Whyline, a virtual queuing and appointment platform. The purchase price for the all cash deal was not disclosed. 9. NYC venture capital firm Crossbeam Venture Partners has raised $70 million for a new fund, its second. The Crossbeam II fund will participate in Seed and Series A rounds for startups focused on fintech, novel asset classes and new forms of media. (www.crossbeam.vc) (PR Newswire)

10. NYC’s GreenSpark, a digital platform for metal recyclers, has raised $5 million in a Series A financing. NYC’s Tiger Global led the round and was joined by Bienville Capital. GreenSpark provides an end-to-end, web-based solution for metal recyclers, helping them save time and money by streamlining their operation and increasing their access to data.
