Career Conversations
Career conversations is a series of recorded interviews with people who have transitioned from university research positions to alternative roles and sectors. For anyone intending to transition outside of academia this is a great resource! Participants discuss their research background, their motivations for moving into a new sector, how they found out what CV, skills, experience etc. were required, and how they then acquired the necessary skills and experience. Participants also provide reflections on what they would do differently now, and on what, in their experience, is required for career success.
Micro Workshops
The micro workshops are based on materials drawn from already successful live workshop sessions. There are four videos available:
- Creating CVs for Careers Beyond Academia
- Benchmarking
- Capitalise on your Research Skills to find a Career Path
- Career Values & Drivers
The micro workshops are short, open access and accessible to researchers at all times. They are available to researchers who cannot attend scheduled workshops or 1:1 career guidance sessions, but also act as a conduit to direct researchers towards more bespoke resources.

Writing Retreats
11th - 27th January 2022
The aim of a structured writing retreat is to use dedicated writing time to progress writing projects in a supportive, non-surveillance environment. Example projects include, book chapters, journal articles, research proposals and reports.
Most of the time is used for writing, with everyone logged into the online session working on their own projects. There is a brief planning session at the start, followed by a writing slot and then a review at the end as part of the session wrap up.
A retreat works best when you focus exclusively on writing, defining specific goals you want to achieve i.e. sections of a paper/chapter, number of words, etc.
We are running a number of retreats during January, to find out more please visit: https://edin.ac/3crY5OA
