Dragon Dreaming into the New Year

Dear WTR Network Family and Friends,

A year ago, through a visioning process called Dragon Dreaming, the core team of Network Weavers identified key areas for growing and strengthening the Network. While we are still calling in many of these dreams, some have already borne fruit.

Inspired by our dream of greater international representation, we created an international focus group to provide input for the next phase of the Network website. In June, we offered a multilingual Latin American panel, El Trabajo Que Reconecta en América Latina y Centroamérica: desafíos y oportunidades, and have cultivated international and multilingual connections through facilitator-led Once You Know film screenings. Additionally, we welcomed Helen Sui, a new Weaver team member from China (see photo).

Behind the scenes, our core team has created an organizational map, clarified and strengthened our working committees and welcomed new volunteers (meet them below). New facilitators continue to join us, finding support and ways to engage.

And you continue to show your support of the Network by offering a strong base of support to help the Network thrive. Thank you!

This year we’re working on:
  • Major website revisions designed to foster more collaboration and ease of use
  • Improved support and resources for our Facilitator Members, and new opportunities for them to work together
  • Mentorship program for Emerging Facilitators
  • New opportunities for Facilitator Members to work together
  • Developing partnerships with other organizations for mutual support in our work for the Great Turning
  • International panels and special events in the Webinars and Conversation Cafés Program
What else would you like to see us working on? We encourage you to jump in, collaborate and learn by participating in the online forum, volunteering for a committee and sharing your ideas with us.

Yours in the Great Turning!
The WTR Network Weavers

Practice Garden:
Emerging and Re-envisioned Practices
Revisiting an old favorite: The Bodhisattva Check-in

Anti-Oppression Resource Group members, aware that a European-colonizer mindset has informed much of the development of the WTR over the years, has been reviewing some classic WTR exercises. Most recently we reviewed and updated the Bodhisattva Check-in. This exercise helps us “See with New Eyes” as we reflect on and embrace the unique challenges and gifts of our own individual lives. This process can help fortify us for the work before us. Here’s the latest version.

It’s a work-in-progress, and your comments are welcome on the Community Forum.

Invitations from the Anti-Oppression Resource Group

The Anti-Oppression Resource Group has two “De-escalating Patterns of Harm” practice sessions coming up, on February 3 and April 7. These sessions are open to anyone who attended – or has watched the recording of – one or both of last year’s “De-escalating Patterns of Harm in White Dominant Spaces” webinars. (August 28 recording is here; October 23 recording is here.) Reviewing the De-escalating Patterns of Harm in White Dominant Spaces document is also helpful.

These practice sessions are offered on a sliding scale of $0-$50 per person. Register for the February 3 (1pm EST) practice session here.

For people who are interested in a longer training, Aravinda Ananda and Janna Diamond are offering a 6-hour training on January 30, "Cultivating the Capacity to Intervene When Harm Happens: an exploration of microaggressions in Work That Reconnects spaces."

Input welcome! The “De-escalating patterns of harm in white dominant spaces” document was written as a collaborative effort by members of the Anti-Oppression Resource Group (AORG) in 2019. Much learning has happened since that time and the document could benefit from updates, additions, and more details from the wider community. The AORG welcomes and appreciates your feedback and additions by commenting directly on the Google doc or through this Google form. The Google doc will be open for commenting until the end of February.  In March, suggested changes will be reviewed and a new version generated. Thank you in advance if you have input to offer.
