January 2022 Newsletter

Message from the President

Dear JLT Friends, Partners, and Community Leaders,

Last month, I recapped many of the outstanding works-of-service our members achieved on behalf of the Big Bend, our community, and our signature partners. This list continues to grow and although the new year marks the beginning of a significant transition period within our organization, I am proud of the mission-centered work achieved to date and look forward to what the rest of the year has to bring.

This month, dozens of uniquely talented volunteers will interview for leadership positions within JLT. These women, whether they know it or not, will inherit 60+ years of community service, legacy projects, and a renewed sense of service to the Big Bend region.

In February, JLT members will vote on our Jill Pope Community Partner that will directly benefit from our League’s service and resources the next two years. They will also vote on our new Strategic Partnership we hope to implement to further grow the League’s impact on organizations that directly tie to our mission. To learn more about our commitment to local organizations, please contact projectresearchdevelopment@jltallahassee.org.

In the busy month of March, our members will execute our 7th Annual Bold Sips Fundraising Event as well as our 6th Annual Golf Classic, which still has a few open teams left - join us for a day full of golfing fun! March also brings our 3rd Annual Mighty Meals, a JLT signature project alleviating food insecurity in Leon County during spring break. Each “Mighty Meals Box”, distributed through our partnership with the Second Harvest of the Big Bend and Sabal Palm Elementary, contains enough food to feed a family of four a total of three nutritious meals throughout the seven days of spring break. The box also includes community resources and a unique cookbook to help families craft nutritious meals with the contents of the box. Want to know how you can help? We welcome your support and partnership to grow the resources provided to families that attend Mighty Meals. To learn more and connect, reach us at mightymeals@jltallahassee.org

Additionally, our Board and Management team continues to work tirelessly behind the scenes to update our brand to further align our local League to the Association of Junior Leagues International. This redesign will help JLT expand available resources to our League which will directly impact the service and support we can offer our community partners and the families we serve.

As a non-profit organization, we could not do what we do without our incredible JLT volunteers! Beginning in April, prospective new members will be invited to attend information sessions to learn more about JLT and how to get involved. Please follow the Junior League of Tallahassee on social media to stay up to date on upcoming events.

By May, more than 100 JLT Members will have completed one or more of the three training tracks offered by our Leadership & Development Committee: Civic Engagement and Personal Leadership.

If you know me at all, you know I am a generally enthusiastic person, but I hope you can see why I truly am ecstatic for what is to come these next five months!

Happy New Year,
Katie Britt Williams
President, 2021-2022

Many thanks to our Teen Board members for making a difference and bringing joy to children in Tallahassee.
