As detailed by the Miami Design Preservation League, the historic Collins Ave. hotel was once a high society hot spot, and famously served as the venue for The Beatles’ second U.S. show in February 1964. Meanwhile, the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board voted unanimously yesterday to have the city’s planning department prepare a report designating Al Capone’s waterfront mansion as historically significant. The process could take a year, and the Miami Beach Commission will have the final say on whether or not to preserve the house. (NBC 6 South Florida / Miami Herald)
