Attending School and COVID
We have had questions come up as to when it's ok to send your child to school and when they should stay home and for how long. It can be confusing with so much information out there and it has recently changed too. We put some information together to address the questions and provide clarity.

Supporting Children and Youth through Natural Disasters
Natural disasters include hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, tsunamis, and floods, as well as extreme weather events such as blizzards, droughts, extreme heat, and windstorms. These events can lead to many adversities for children and families, including displacement, loss of home and personal property, changes in schools, economic hardship, loss of community and social supports, and even the injury and death of loved ones.

Tragic or traumatic occurrences can alter a person’s sense of security. We know that children may be upset or have questions about what has taken place. The first and most important support for children and youth is their family. On our website is a document with ways that we can work together to create a safe environment for children and youth during this difficult time.

Grocery Card Fundraiser - Nelson
Did you know that the money raised from the grocery cards helps fund major improvements to our outdoor spaces? When you order grocery cards, every dollar you spend goes towards your groceries, so it costs you nothing to help. Save-on-Foods and the Kootenay Co-op donate 7 to 8% to our school based on the value of cards that our school buys. More information and sign up at https://wildflower.sd8.bc.ca/blog/2021-22-grocery-card-fundraiser. You can sign up for just one month, or as many as you like, any time you like.

The Schoolkit Hub mobile app provides users with the latest announcements, news, events, and contact information about any of the district’s schools and many district departments. Once downloaded on a phone or tablet, a user can choose which school or district department they wish to receive information from. Notifications are sent whenever a new item is posted, as well as immediate alerts for emergency broadcasts or unscheduled closures.
