In my first commercial ‘spam’ mail of 2022 I offer a selection of material relating to altered states of consciousness, the substances that induce them.

This selection is the third in a series of extracts from my latest printed catalogue of material from Julio Santo Domingo's LSD library. For a taste of it, here is a write-up from my blog on an interesting print of a woman jacking up morphine by Eugène Grasset. I have also added a listing to buy the catalogue below if you would like to have a copy directly from me, or arrange collection. There are also a number of copies in Shoreditch’s Blue Mountain School where I keep a portion of my stock.

For this third email from LSD 3.1, I offer a pithy selection of material of all kinds, including an important multiple (or possibly a unique wall sculpture) from the great Roman Cieślewicz’s studio as well as an imaginary voyage that takes in English opium dealing in China. There is also a portrait of the first tripper Albert Hofmann in his rose garden with a book on the stuff that he synthesised that 'trip' from.
A countercultural ‘reversed’ wanted poster from Cleveland Ohio paints a grim picture of law and order in modern USA. Another item illuminates the farcical beginnings of cocaine as a ‘race' and public order problem and another the massive tragedy that it became, photographed 82 years later by Eugene Richards. There are also many advertising signs largely from when drugs were legal. These include one for an Australian cannabis elixir called Dr Poppy’s and as another kind of tonic (also from mainland Oceania) there is a commonplace book kept by druggie-Wiccans. It is also the third printed catalogue entirely under the marque of ‘Carl Williams Rare Books’. I have unashamedly included the most modest of items for low tens of pounds to the grandest of rare books, art, objects and manuscripts for tens of thousands. Just as Julio Santo Domingo would have it in the LSD Library (but with a much larger upper limit). For collection in East London at £50 or by post. All of the items in this catalogue came from a private library of altered states of consciousness owned by the late Julio Mario Santo Domingo. Mr Santo Domingo set up a foundation and called the collection The Ludlow Santo Domingo library or LSD Library, it was principally spread over a few floors at Chemin du Foron 16, Thônex, Switzerland and at his residence on Promenade Saint-Antoine, Geneva, Avenue Montaigne, Paris, Ferme des Carneaux, Boigneville and possibly New York. There was a part of his collection that after his death was ‘stranded’ in London. The bulk of those groups of materials are now on long term deposit at The Houghton and have been rolled out into the entire library system of Harvard University.
