Greetings, Friends! And Happy New Year!

Just wanted to give a heads up that I posted a new blogpost on the website that has lots of pictures and not so many words (a true achievement for me):  2021 Garden Review -- Moving Forward in 2022    Hope you enjoy! (I took some time to learn about optimizing photos for the web so they don't bog down your devices when you open it. Let me know how I did!)

I debated a long time as to whether or not I should do one of these end-of-the-year review things. But while organizing my photos, I found some that really told the story of the year - kind of like the Earth & Sky Phenology Wheel in pictures.

It was a rough year. Lots of highs and lows. The garden was sorely neglected, and yet it still thrived. It gets more complex and a little more crazy every year, and I love it!

Lots of ideas for 2022 - Hoping to do a better job of sharing them on the website!

Dye Plants: Growing lots more - and doing ecoprints and inks

Plant & Guild Features - adding more useful info to the site; making it more of a resource

Woodworking: My husband, Jeff, is building a small teardrop camper. Will be sharing the progress. The idea is to do some camping in something that doesn’t need to be crammed while still wet into a stuff sack in the morning. Getting up off the ground might be nice, too. Not that we’re too old to sleep in a tent. Just making that clear.

More in the "Things Handmade" Department: I cranked out a lot of crafts over the year (especially these past couple months) and would love to share some of those ideas with you:
  • Lotions & Potions: salves, lipbalms, and body butters
  • Fruity Concoctions: jams & jellies, liqueurs & elixirs
  • Sewing projects: backpacks, tote bags, slow clothing & mending
  • Dye projects: Linen, paper, prints, inks
  • Handmade Cordage: Nettles, kenaf, bindweed!
  • Yarns: hats and mittens
  • Art & Music: The hammered dulcimer has been quite the challenge! BTW - I had a great response on the Phenology Wheel and had some extra prints made. If you'd like to order one, take the link above or otherwise let me know.
Slowing down - living simply and appreciating small things. Helping one another.

Also making time for adventures!

Thanks for joining us. And thanks for being a member of the bonafide Barbolian Fields Fan Club. Hope to hear from you in the year ahead!

Mulch the world!
