In November 2021, the SEN and Creativity Community of Practice met face-to-face for the first time, bringing together teachers from Sheffield special schools and professional artists to explore how the creative process can benefit the children and the people supporting them. | Third Angel - Future Makers 2022Secondary Over the past four+ months Sheffield theatre company Third Angel have been working in partnership with Site Gallery to deliver Future Makers S7, a programme of creative workshops for 11-14 year olds in the Sharrow, Highfield and Nether Edge Area. There has been a wide range of activities on offer including photography, sound recording, acting for TV, special effects make-up and more. Groups have had chance to work with successful local artists like Dominic Heslop aka The1Devoted to write raps + poems and learn stage fighting with combat tutor, Kenan Ali . |

There will be a FREE weekly workshops taking place at Common Ground, Machon Bank, Nether Edge, Sheffield S7 1GR on Sundays 1-3pm from 23/1/21. Anyone aged 11-14 can sign up to take part and the group will work alongside the Third Angel team to learn skills, explore ideas and ultimately – make something brilliant! It could be a performance, a film, a music video, a podcast… The group will get to explore their own interests & ideas to help them decide. Do your students like art, film and new technologies? Sheffield DocFest's Alternate Realities programme showcases exciting artworks and new digital technologies from artists and filmmakers from across the world and is currently touring the UK. At the end of January, artworks from the 2020 and 2021 programme will be taken to the Cooper Gallery in Barnsley and the Hepworth in Wakefield. All events are free and open to all! We would love for your school to join us in the new year to experience and discuss these contemporary artworks. The programme includes a range of screenings, exhibitions, and discussions. We have two exciting opportunities for teachers to work alongside artists in schools between January and July 2022. We are offering: One artist residency - involving a Chol artist working with teachers and children on a weekly basis in curriculum time, co-creating a new project in school, and providing CPD opportunities for all staff. Five whole school introductions - a chance for every child and teacher to work with an artist to explore Imaginary Communities and creative learning.
These opportunities are heavily match funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation and build on Chol’s Imaginary Communities (IC) approach to story-making in the classroom. Maker{Move} and Sheffield Invents: Mon 14 Feb, 12-3pm, Kelham Island Museum. Free - drop in Join the Maker{Move} team and get hands on with some Sheffield inventions and machines. Using the resources on our pop-up makerspace you will be able to create, tinker, test and modify to invent your own machine. Recognising the benefits of connecting with nature, especially for young people, is gaining momentum by the second. Are you keen to develop your offer to include nature connection more holistically? Create Sheffield Partner and SLE, Emily Whiteley from In-between the Trees specialises in building capacity within educational settings to do just that. Emily has developed the Forest School provision at Bents Green Special School, the only secondary setting in the UK to be a Forest School Association recognised provider. Emily can offer bespoke CPD for your setting. We have availability for booking our new Learning programme throughout the Spring Term 2022. This includes: Sensory Play sessions for under 5’s, Unsung Heroes – HM Coastguard, air ambulance and mountain rescue: Friday 21 January 2022: 10.00-11.00 & 13:00-14:00. We'll be enjoying some water play and creating some of our own helicopters, air ambulance or mountain rescue; your choice! Under armour: Friday 18 February 2022: 10.00-11.00 & 13:00-14:00. We will learn about the different materials used to make armour and why some work better than others. We will create our own armour too, and of course there will be the usual songs and stories. Arms and Armour Event: Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th February 2022. Fancy meeting a knight? Ever wondered what vehicles armoured police use? Or want to learn about armour in the animal world? Now’s your chance to learn all about arms and armour from today’s modern armoured police to the brave knights of the past.

Climate CrisisSchools Climate Education South Yorkshire have shared useful resources for schools about climate change and other environmental issues. South Yorkshire Climate Alliance have a great list of groups in South Yorkshire that tackle climate change in different ways. From food to transport, to culture and energy, there is a group for everyone! Transform our World is a community of educators empowering students to tackle climate change. Here are their top free resources themed around climate, energy, food and consumption, pollution and waste, career conversations and more.
Diversity & InclusionWe are Culture - The January Challenge : 64 Million Artists are sharing 31 days of fun, quick and free creative challenges to kickstart the year. 31 challenges have been written to explore our identities, cultures and communities. You could use these challenges can be used all through the year for inspiration. The Anti-Racist Library have shared a list of books promoting anti-racist literature and fiction by black, indigenous and people of colour authors. Sheffield AntiRacist Education Twitter page is worth a follow for news, opportunities and opinions, relevant to building an anti-racist education system.

Sheffield Adventures 50+ creative activities developed for Create Sheffield to share - ideas that are useful for your home or school environment and ones that will take you all around our wonderful city. Creativity Exchange - The Creativity Exchange is a space for school leaders, teachers, those working in cultural organisations, scientists, researchers and parents to share ideas about how to teach for creativity and develop young people’s creativity at and beyond school.
