Dear Friend of FLOW,

This is my first message to you in 2022, and of course I’m looking forward as well as backward.

Reflecting on 2021, I celebrate the significant progress that we have made together in protecting Great Lakes waters, progress achieved because of you and your tremendous support.

As we begin 2022 together, I’m thinking about the strength and the courage we will need to increase our momentum. Chiefly, I’m inspired by the extraordinary opportunity we have to unite around water.

Water is a uniter. It is the bond that we share, it is the DNA of who we are. As my colleague Dave Dempsey has written, “Water makes music, carries us downstream, reflects light into art. Water doesn’t distinguish among us by political philosophy. We all get its benefits.” Our democracy is nourished when all people have access to safe affordable water.

Let's journey together in 2022 with this mindset of togetherness, and carry the spirit of the water, protecting the healing of every arc of our water cycle.

My best wishes to you.

In solidarity,

Liz Kirkwood, FLOW Executive Director
