Weekly Update

Happy New Year!

Are you keeping your resolutions? I hope so, but if not, that's okay! What matters most is that the Lord always keeps his promises to you, this year and every year.

That being said, resolutions are good. This week in worship we will have our final God-Lived Life Sunday and have the chance to make resolutions to give more back to the Lord. Also, try to keep your Bible reading resolutions! Here are some reminders about that:

READ THE BIBLE IN 2022, MONDAY NIGHT MEETINGS AT 6:30PM
If you're joining our Read-the-Bible in 2022 group, remember to start on Saturday. If you ordered a Bible and it's not in yet, you can find the readings here. We're going to start meeting in homes after our next meeting, so you'll need to tell me if you plan on attending so I can tell you where to find us.

If you want to do your own personal Bible reading plan for 2022, the YouVersion Bible App has dozens of customizable options. If you're trying for the first time, try reading the New Testament in one year. And if you get behind, you can just shift the days forwards. Plus, you have the option to listen or read text. SET THE PLAN TODAY AND START TOMORROW!

Our YouTube channel is the new place to watch our services.

Last week's email had a low open rate, so I'll repeat this:
Construction had to be delayed due to the excessive cold. Please be prepared for a few months to elapse before we have permission from the county to move into the new building. We have to have at least 24 hours of above-freezing temperatures to pour the ramps which will be required for that.

Thanks to all who supported the food drive! We raised 283 lbs + cash donations.

CHIEFS HOCKEY MATCH JAN 15
Gordon has flyers in the back of church. Minor correction: the opposing team is Seattle, not Kamloops.

CHRISTIAN ESTATE PLANNING SEMINAR AT THE VINE JAN 29TH
Click here for more info. Given that we're all going to die eventually, unless Jesus returns first, if you have an estate it's worth attending a seminar like this. It will cover things like:
  • How to remember loved ones in your will
  • Power of Attorney & Health Care Proxies
  • Revocable & Irrevocable Trusts
  • How to protect your assets
  • Living trusts
  • Planning for social security in retirement
  • How to make sure your wishes are carried out
You can also talk to Pastor Schultz before or after the service tonight for more info.

QUARTERLY VOTERS MEETING AFTER CHURCH JANUARY 30
We need to elect several new positions on the council, elders, and school board.

SCHOOL AUCTION INFO
Excited to see how richly God has blessed our school in the past couple of years?  So are we!!! St. Matthew Lutheran School is hosting a Silent Auction on April 23, and we need your help to make this event successful!  View the items needed for donation here!  Donation forms for items are also available on that site.  Sign ups are requested by January 20.  Donated items must be ready by April 1.  All auction proceeds are used to help fund our second modular and adding another teacher!!!  Thank you for your help in this way!

SCHOOL SECOND MODULAR FUNDRAISER
Our treasurer Ron Klawitter gave a presentation about a fundraiser we are starting to fund a second modular building for the school. You will find information in your church mailbox. If you choose to make a donation to this cause, please make sure 1) it is in addition to, not replacing, your regular offering, and 2) it is clearly designated by writing "school modular" on the envelope or in the memo line of the check. Thank you for all your support! In this age of apostasy, immorality, and anxiety, 84 kids are learning and experiencing the peace of Christ every day, and we have the opportunity to expand that.

WELS YOUTH RALLY JUNE 2022 - OPTIONS
Perhaps kids can save their Christmas money to offset the cost of attending the WELS Youth Rally in Knoxville, TN, June 28--July 1, 2022. Speak to Pastor West if you're interested in attending. We were planning to be in East Tennessee at that time anyway so we'll probably attend. It's a four-day drive each way, so think about your options. I suggest flying to Atlanta and making the beautiful 3.5 hour drive, or flying to Knoxville if the extra cost ends up being negligible. Perhaps we could arrange an add-on trip to my family home in Johnson City, our remote family property near Roan Mountain, or a few days in the Gatlinburg/Smokey Mountains area. All options to consider.

FROM MIRIAM SCHULTZ
Could you please add my Mom's address to your next newsletter? I think there are some members of St Matthew that would like to send her a card. Mrs. Katherine Westendorf, 6452 Oak St, Box 22, Dalton, WI, 53926
