We all have fallen for a lie at one time or another. Some have made us look like fools. Other lies may have been used to control or manipulate us. Some may have seemed subtle and less obvious. Or maybe the lie was one we have told ourselves. No matter the lie, when they become a part of us, when they become a part of the way we live, they will wreak havoc on our souls.
John Mark Comer warns about the war we must wage on these lies in his book, Live No Lies. He writes, “Our battle isn’t so much a war of guns and bombs. It’s not against other people at all. It’s a war on lies. And the problem is less that we tell lies and more that we live them; we let false narratives about reality into our bodies, and they wreak havoc in our souls” - (p. Xxii - John Mark Comer - Live No Lies).
Is there a lie you are living? Is there a lie you are ready to take on? We invite you to join us for the next several weeks as we dive into our message series, Live No Lies. Each week we will take on the lies we have come to believe about God, our Self, Others, the Devil and the World.
In week one, we addressed the lie - that we make our own god. We do this by picking and choosing the things we want to believe about God and we end up crafting an image of God that fits our expectations and desires. But the god we make our own cannot save us. The god we make in our own image is no more powerful than we are. The god we pick and choose on our own will leave us disappointed. But the one true God is an all powerful, ever present, all knowing and loving God - a God who is greater than we could ever imagine. (You can listen to the whole message over on our youtube channel).
This week we take on the lie we tell our self - the lie that we are god - that we somehow can fix ourselves, that all we need can be found within ourselves. But the truth is while we are created good, we are incomplete without God. Join us as we dive into the truth and Live No Lies.
