Welcome to 2022! The next FCA-FAC General Meeting will be on Wednesday January 19 at 7 pm via Google Meet – meeting material will be distributed closer to that date. The main topic for that meeting will be the new Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act and its implications for community associations.

2. 2022 is looking to be a busy year for Ottawa residents and community groups. We just finished updating the City's Official Plan and now must turn to revising the City's Zoning Bylaw to fit the new OP policies. As well, we can expect this year an Inclusionary Zoning Bylaw to require affordable housing as part of new development, new policies governing residential garbage collection and re-cycling, proposals to improve the City's winter clearing operations, ongoing work on updating the City's Transportation Master Plan, a review of the City's community insurance program, a provincial election on June 6, and a municipal election for Ottawa City Council on October 24 (electing at least a new mayor and 6 or more new City Councillors) - not to mention the end of COVID and a functioning LRT (we hope!).

3. A reminder to FCA member associations that membership fees for the FCA for 2022 are now due (a bargain at $35!). Please fill out the membership form (found here) and make sure we have your most up-to-date co-ordinates and representatives. Send the completed form to the FCA Treasurer at cutler@fca-fac.ca .

4. And a reminder to fill out the FCA Community Insurance Survey if you have not already done so. This will help inform the current review the City is undertaking of its Community Insurance Program - the deadline to complete the FCA Community Insurance Survey is January 31. Find the survey at

5. Earlier this week the FCA's Planning & Zoning Committee met to hear a presentation on a 15-minute neighbourhood study for Britannia Village, the outline of a housing advocacy campaign led by the Alliance to End Homelessness, and to discuss the City's Parkland Dedication Bylaw review. Motions were adopted to endorse the housing advocacy campaign and to respond to the issues raised as part of the City's Parkland Dedication Bylaw. These recommendations are to be discussed at the January 19 FCA General Meeting.

6. As well, the FCA Transportation Committee met this week to discuss the City's Transportation Master Plan Update Phase 3 report (see Transportation Master Plan Update). The Committee is concerned about finalizing some 70 policies contained in the report before completing the Origin/Destination Study on travel patterns (scheduled for later this year), particularly given the impact of the pandemic on work patterns, etc. A motion adopted by the Committee on this report expressing these concerns will be discussed at the January 19 FCA General Meeting.
