The Time is Now

We are in URGENT need of furniture and household items for incoming Afghan families. Restoring Dignity, The Furniture Project and Refugee Empowerment Center are working together to gather supplies for 115 Afghans who will be arriving in Omaha over the next two weeks. There is an UNPRECEDENTED number of families arriving over the next two months, and we need YOUR help to welcome them!

Ever since the fall of Kabul, Afghan families have been living at military bases around the United States. After months of security vetting, employment document registration, medical check ups and vaccinations, the Federal Government is releasing large numbers of families to be resettled across the United States. In Nebraska, 900 Afghans will be resettled by the end of February (in the next month and a half). The majority will be placed in Omaha and this city will become their home. As a community, we have a moral obligation to support these families, especially considering the sacrifices they made to support the United States military when we were in Afghanistan. These are the Afghan citizens, and their families, who put their lives on the line to work alongside our troops.

We LOVE accepting quality donations that are in new or very good condition. Every donated item goes into the homes of families who came to America with refugee status. We want our families to feel dignified when they receive items from the new Furniture Bank. As such, we will not accept items that are in bad condition. Before donating, please look over our “Give This, Not That” guide and read over our list of items we do not accept. Thank you for giving quality items!
