Dear <<First Name>> (ID No. <<ID No.>>)

In this issue:

Important message to members

Illustration of people meeting, crossed out.In light of the increasing COVID-19 Omicron infections in Victoria, and considering the safety and wellbeing of our members, U3A Melbourne City has decided to defer the return of face-to-face classes.

There will therefore be no face-to-face classes offered up to 7 March 2022
(except for outdoor Let's do Activities, including walking and cycling).

The Committee of Management will review the situation continuously and provide members with regular updates. It is unfortunate that we have had to make this decision, but as you will have seen in the press, new infections are at an all-time high, while our cohort of members is particularly vulnerable.

Please follow government advice and get your third/booster vaccine as soon as you can.

All Things Art: Term 1 short courses

At U3A Melbourne City we know our members enjoy spending time visiting galleries and museums and exploring the culture of our city through our wonderful theatre, concert and gallery precinct.

So, during Term 1 we are devoting particular attention to all the wonderful options we have by celebrating the arts through our U3A membership.

Can Art Change the World

Susie May

Susie May will use a ground-breaking exhibition at the NGV - “We Can Change the World” - to provoke creative thought and discussion about how art and design can influence positive change in a creative world.

Great Women Artists

"Why have there been no great women artists?" This is the question Linda Nochlin (feminist art historian) posed in a 1971 article. In this eight-part series we will investigate this question and reveal the "Great Women Artists" over centuries.

Botanical Art for Beginners

Nene Macwhirter

A short course for beginners combining theory and practice. No experience necessary. We will explore the definition and history of the art form as well as learning some of the skills of observation, drawing and using colour with coloured pencils.

Digital Photography

Jill Thompson and Max Warlond

From beginners to more experienced photographers, using compact or DSLR cameras, we explore aspects of digital photography aiming to "get it right in the camera". Hands-on photography assignments throughout the course to reinforce the learning and time to discuss these each week.
