2021 Milestone: Over 1 Million Zero-Emission
Vehicles Sold in California
California is the number one Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) market in the United States. 2021 marked a pivotal year for the ZEV market in California, with the state reaching over 1 million ZEVs sold. The ZEV market continues to be more expansive and far-reaching with over 70 models currently available in the state.
California is also playing a leading role internationally, participating at COP26, the annual UN Climate Change Conference, in November 2021. The state signed on to a number of ambitious global agreements, including the COP26 Declaration on Zero-Emission Cars and Vans, which brings together nations, states and regions, vehicle manufacturers, businesses, and investors to achieve 100 percent zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035 in leading markets, and no later than 2040 globally.
