Greetings Scholars!

We have a Ronin Lightning Talks scheduled for the end of this week. We have space for one more presenter, please do sign up

Stay-tuned for our quarterly Kitsune Newsletter that is coming out this week. As opposed to the weekly Update (what you are reading right now), Kitsune goes out to our full mailing list (about 450 Ronin Research Scholars and 850 friends of Ronin). Our volunteer editorial team--Emily Monosson, Ainara Mancebo, and Varsha Dani--has been working hard to bring us all a really great newsletter that represents the Ronin Institute. Here are some of our past Kitsune newsletters

Our two community meetings for this week are the Events Working Group (WG) meeting and the Membership WG meeting. Please do attend these if you want to help shape our events for 2022 (Events WG), or help streamline some of our membership policies and approaches, especially as we continue our journey towards more equity within the Ronin Institute (Membership WG)

Have a great week!

- Arika

All events are on our Ronin calendar (add the Google Calendar). If you want to add something to this Weekly Update that you think Ronin Scholars would be interested in, please reach out via weekly.update@ronininstitute.org

Ronin Lightning Talks

Two 10-minute talks by Ronin scholars about their ongoing research or work (with 5 minutes of questions after). Speakers give a general overview of their work, or talk in more detail about a specific project.

Date: Jan 15, 2022
Time:  12:00 PM US ET / UTC (in your local time)(add to your calendar)
Meeting Link: Zoom TBD

Presenters:
Speaker: John LaRocco
Title: AKLO: Synthetic Telepathy for Cognitive Enhancement
Summary: Direct brain-to-brain interface (BBI) has resulted in enhanced cognitive performance. Invasive, implanted devices have successfully demonstrated this in animals, while non-invasive testing demonstrated similar results for humans. As consumer EEG-based BCI devices have been available for decades, increasingly low-cost transducers, with a BBI software protocol, would close the loop in ensuring reliable, entry-level synthetic telepathy. Automated Kinetic Linking Optimization (AKLO) is an open-source framework built with existing, proven tools, including Python3 and MQTT. The potential for AKLO is massive, as are the wider implications.

We still need one more presenter! Please sign up here!
