Thank you to Residents, LMRID and GSCID who donated groceries and clothing for those working with Ingrid on the Social Upliftment program

A fun day was had by all and hats off to Ingrid to Pick 'n Pay who donated the eats

Hampers packed ready for sharing

...there was even a little bit left to welcome the new year in

CLEAN UP

The week before Christmas Ingrid together with Law Enforcement and the City's Cleansing Department arranged for a big clean up at the spot just beyond Raapenberg Bridge where 80 - 100 bags of rubbish was removed.

A couple live at this site and they frequent our neighbourhoods on refuse collection days and remove bin contents and sometimes the bins as well and take it back. A lot of the littering (as seen in the pic below) is recyclable and Ingrid seems to think they are sifting out the metal and glass to sell.

They have been asked to keep the area tidy but they won't. This is the 3rd big clean up but within a week or 2 it is just as bad. This couple are refusing help and do not wish to work with Ingrid on the Social Upliftment program.

What you can do:
  • See next article and please can we encourage as many people as possible to join the recycling program
  • Mark you bin so it can be identified and retrieved
  • If possible empty you black bags into your bin so it is not easy for the bag to be removed and taken away
  • Put your bins out as close as possible to collection time and please do not put out the night before

RECYCLING SUBSCRIPTIONS

Thanks so much to those of you who have already paid up for next year.

Now on a matter which concerns many of us - the fact that bags get opened and recycling stolen or strewn all over the road before being collected. I have had a number of complaints and requests that Averda communicate better about collection times. I just spoke the driver of the van Lizaan about the issue and she explained things from her side....

Sometimes she gets given a small truck and sometimes a big one. This affects how quickly the truck fills and how often she has to go and unload it (which can take 1.5 hours). Then there are factors such as traffic, breakdowns, etc. However, she is going to endeavour to stick to the following loose schedule:

8am to 9am: Upper Rosebank and Mowbray
9am to 12 noon: Rest of Rosebank
12.30 onwards: Rest of Mowbray

I have asked her to let me know if she can see that this is going to change (like today) and will then try to send out a WhatsApp message to everyone. I know this doesn't resolve everyone's problems as many people have to put out their bags before going to work in the morning and cannot just put them out at specific times, but for the moment this is the best we can do. Let's try and see if it works.

Thanks,
Jane Keen
