It's finally here... 'The Grandmothers' exhibit will begin at the Leighton Art Centre, Calgary, Alberta on February 5, 10-4 pm with an artist's reception at 2pm MST and will run until April 2, 2022. There will also be a Facebook Live and Instagram Live on the Leighton Art Centre's social media at 2PM MST for those who won't be able to make it. They are following the Alberta government REP program (masks & proof of vaccine). I'm thrilled and cannot wait to see the portraits and stories of these incredible women displayed in that beautiful location. Thank you so much to everyone for contributing your beautiful grandmothers.

There are now two books available for 'The Grandmothers' project...the first is an exhibition booklet that includes the photographs along with the painting and story of each grandmother and can be viewed here. The second is a mini-booklet that includes the painting and story and is available to view here. The second booklet titled 'The Grandmothers Project' will also be available at the Leighton Art Centre during the exhibit.

I'm excited to share that I'll be sharing paintings of Alberta's birds as part of 'Painting the West' as a guest artist of Julie deBoer in the annual online 'Square Foot Show' hosted by Ontario artist Julie Veenstra. I've been inspired by all the visitors we have had in our garden and along the creek the past two years...magpie, crow, yellow-billed cuckoo, white-winged dove and ruby-throated hummingbird.
Date: February 9-11, 2022
Online: https://squarefootshow.com/
Available: 5-12x12 original paintings on canvas for ONLY $300 each (regularly $500)
Apparently the art sale tends to be short and quick so they do recommend going online as soon as it opens on February 9 at 6pm MST. As the date gets closer, I will be sharing more information on my website here and on instagram here.

'Blue Rock Pigeon' / 12x12 / acrylic on canvas
I'm looking forward to having another painting exhibited as part of the 'Animalis' exhibition at the Federation Gallery on March 8-20 in Vancouver. With all of the walks I took with my girls over the holidays, I've been inspired by all the beautiful birds that have been visiting. We're very lucky to live by a creek, so the varieties of the birds are always such a treat. Though pigeons are often considered nuisance birds, I think they are beautiful.

I am thrilled to be invited to a mini-artist retreat at the Banff Boutique Inn in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. I love Banff and can clearly remember my first visit when I was 5-years old. It was a long drive from northern Manitoba, but oh so worth it and my father took me for a little hike up the mountains and taught me to use his camera. I feel so fortunate to live so close and to be able to visit regularly as it is definitely my favourite place. I'm really looking forward to spending several days painting in that glorious environment and can't wait to see what I will produce.

I will begin the 'Woman's Work' project after the Art Rereat in Banff and, so far, have 40-8x10 inch canvases prepared. So many people in healthcare have responded to my call and I'm thrilled. I am still looking for more women to add to the project and just need a couple of things emailed here:
1. I need a photograph or two of you.
2. Share a sentence or two (or more!) about the work you do, have done, or would love to do (everything from parenting to volunteering to jobs/careers).
Thank you so much for contributing to this project!
If you'd like to learn more about the project, please visit my website here.

I'm excited to share that I have joined the LevellingUp team as a Lead Master. I am still leading mentorship programs but also going to be working closely with the other artist mentors in order to support and encourage artists in any way that I can. I am so fortunate to work with a team that believes in artists supporting artists.
