We want to remind you of everything we accomplished together in 2021 for PPOW. On a shoestring budget and with sheer determination we established the People’s Party of Washington, and so much more.
- May 20, 2021: Registered our charter as a state nonprofit with the Washington Secretary of State’s office and as a 527 tax-exempt political organization
- Spent months crafting and finalizing the PPOW Charter and Bylaws
- Hired an accounting firm, opened a credit union account, and enabled contributions and member dues. Recurring contributions now sustain our basic operating costs
- August 28, 2021: Completed our initial organizing meeting and election of officers
- Held a contest for our new slogan: People Before Profit
- Selected our new logo and colors
- Created a biweekly newsletter, The PPOW Press - subscribe here
- Adopted Dynamic Deliberative Democracy (D3), our parliamentary procedures and party structure based on Sociocracy, which is distinguished by the use of consent, rather than majority voting, in discussion and decision-making
- Allied with other organizations such as Whole Washington and the Black Voices Collective (BVC) to further social justice
- Coordinated two events in solidarity with the Washington Progressive Party, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Future to Believe In, and the Black Panther Party of Washington, to vet candidates for local office in eastern and western Washington
- Established social media channels separate from, and outside the administrative control of, the national Movement for a People’s Party, and released official statement regarding MPP
- Helped to found the United People’s Assembly, an all-volunteer assembly of current and former MPP volunteers, constituency caucuses, and other political organizations dedicated to building a new major party of the people in the United States
- Adopted resolutions expressing solidarity with Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant and endorsing Rebecca Parson, candidate for US Congress, Washington’s 6th District
- Formed a state platform and policy circle to prioritize our focus for 2022 and beyond

Tell NYT To Call for a Pardon for Drone Whistleblower Daniel Hale!
- The New York Times recently came through with a display of reporting on drone warfare that should be commended. Drone whistleblower Daniel Hale joined the fight against drones years before the New York Times did, and was treated like a criminal for it.

Right-Wing Recall Defeated: How Kshama Sawant and Socialist Alternative Won (Again!)
- Socialist Alternative
December 13, 2021
For the fourth time, Socialist Alternative leader and Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant has won an election, this time while facing off against a racist, right-wing recall backed by big business. This victory is a vindication for a class-struggle approach to elected office, an example of successful independent working-class politics, and it is full of lessons for working people and the socialist left. "The Insufferable Hypocrisy of Western Governments Hell-bent on Destroying Julian Assange."
- Yonden Lhatoo, Chief News Editor, South China Morning Post
December 31, 2021
In his New Year’s message, SCMP chief news editor Yonden Lhatoo demands Western governments free WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange before preaching press freedom to everyone else. “Flush your own faeces first, before you lecture us on sanitation.” Watch here.
The Histrionics and Melodrama Around January 6 are Laughable, But They Serve Several Key Purposes
- Glenn Greenwald, Substack
January 6, 2022
As Kamala Harris compares 1/6 to 9/11 and Nancy Pelosi introduces the cast of Hamilton to sing about democracy, today's inanity should not obscure its dangers. Read here.
US War Lobby Fuels Conflict in Russia, Ukraine and Syria
- Aaron Maté interview ex-Pentagon advisor, Douglas Macgregor on PushBack
January 6, 2022
Douglas Macgregor, a retired US Army Colonel and former Pentagon senior advisor, analyzes the US-Russia standoff in Ukraine; the aftermath of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan; Trump's failure to act on 2016 campaign anti-interventionist rhetoric, only to surround himself with neocons; and the ongoing, overlooked US military occupation of Syria after the decade-long CIA dirty war. "The Military Industrial Congressional Complex," Macgregor says, "seems to be more powerful than anyone who occupies the office of the presidency." Watch here.
Inspired by Success in Buffalo, Starbucks Union Drive Expands Rapidly
- TheCounter.org
January 11, 2022
Four more stores have filed union papers in the last week alone, and one more store in Buffalo has now unionized. Workers at four Starbucks stores across the country filed petitions for union elections with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in the course of the last week, the latest in a swelling wave of labor activism that has swept the coffee giant since workers at one location in Buffalo, New York, voted to unionize a month ago.
