Save the Date: Social Justice Speaker
We have decided to move this event to a zoom meeting.
You are invited this Sunday! January 16 marks our first Social justice speaker event. Join us at 4pm on zoom for a conversation about how Christians are called to have a life of faith that is rooted in social justice. We will explore the United Methodist Social Principles and our historic creeds, take a look at the dimensions of diversity showing up in our church and our community, and consider where God is calling us to focus in 2022. For more information, click here.
Rev. April Casperson serves as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the West Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church. She is an ordained deacon passionate about diversity and inclusion, vocational discernment, and the organizations and systems that recruit, educate and equip leaders for thoughtful, intentional ministry. Rev. Casperson previously served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Methodist Theological School in Ohio. She recently wrote The Sanctuary for Lent 2021 and has contributed to several Abingdon bible studies and books, including the Connected Faith bible study app and Almost Christmas: A Wesleyan Advent Experience.

Human Relations Day is this Sunday
We are all family. When we walk past our neighbor who is hiding in plain sight, we limit the gifts and graces that our sisters and brothers in Christ bring to the table. We limit the experiences, the voices, and the beloved community that take place through mutual sharing of gifts. With a special offering celebrating Human Relations Day, we join with United Methodists around the world, remembering that the size of the table of divine love is unlimited. Through faith-based volunteer programs, community developers, and programs that work with at-risk teens, our gifts are part of building what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called “Beloved Community.” Please give by visiting linworthumc.org/giving or by writing a check to LUMC and indicating that it is for Human Relations Day. For answers to any questions about Human Relations Day, please click HERE.

Friends,
What will happen to the United Methodist Church if there is a split following the next General Conference, and how will that affect your local congregation? The Central OH Reconciling Team is offering a four-session program on Zoom that will help to inform your local congregation about the choices facing United Methodists in these days ahead. The Alabama-West Florida Reconciling Ministries Network has created a presentation that will help those in your congregation to get their heads and hearts around what the future holds for the UMC in a post-separation church.
These sessions will be held on January 16, 23, 30 from 3:30 to 5:00 pm on Zoom. Click HERE to download a flyer about the series. The flyer also contains a link that you can use to register for the four sessions. Everyone will need to register in advance. All who register will receive the Zoom link, and only those who register will be admitted for the Zoom sessions.
If you have any questions, please email rev.deb.stevens@gmail.com.

Reconciling Ministries Membership
Did you know that your individual membership matters to the Reconciling Ministries Network? (Even though LUMC is a Reconciling Church - individual engagement matters!) Signing up is easy—and your involvement can help us make new connections. Will you take a few moments and sign up at https://rmnetwork.org/join-us ?
Reconciling Ministries Network equips and mobilizes United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves. Signing up as a Reconciling United Methodist helps advocate, teach, encourage and empower growing connections to create a more inclusive and just Church. Stay connected to learn about ways to promote LGBTQ+ justice and inclusion in churches and to continue growing as people who seek the way of Jesus in treating all God's children with dignity and love. Sign up at rmnetwork.org/join-us as an individual Reconciling Methodist and invite your friends and family to get connected to these efforts.
If you have any questions contact Pastor Sara at pastorsara@linworthumc.org.

Lay Leadership 2022
With the turn of the calendar year, we also experience a turn in our church leadership. Many dedicated servants have been leading from their gifts, and that leadership was so greatly appreciated during yet another year of pandemic ministry. Through countless Zoom meetings, we made decisions about our budget, our worship precautions, how to take care of building, how to support mission and ministry partners, and so much more.
We thank the following leaders who have completed their service on various committees:
Ad Council - Jill Wright, Steve Rowe, John Stephen
Finance - John Stamolis, Win Smith, Ryan Zinn, Sean Saffell
Trustees - Brenda Strand
SPRC - Allen Wirt, Win Smith
Stewardship - Garrett Harmon
LCC Board - Sean Saffell, John Mowry
Worship - Bill Northrup
We would like to welcome our new leaders to various roles, some for the very first time, some reprising previous committees/teams membership, and some who have served before but are serving now on a different committee/team.
Ad Council - Barb Ciccotelli, Joel Rabb, Sherry Walls
SPRC - Win Smith
Finance - Melanie Yoder, Aaron Stout, Ruth Riddle
Missions - Matthew Smith
Stewardship - Curtis Walker
LCC Board - Melanie Yoder
Worship - Ian & Jean Davidson
Please hold these new leaders (and the full leadership roster) in your prayers.

John Burrough Christmas Food Drive Update
We handed food out to near 50 families. One lady was in tears getting the provided bag of goods. We still have 30 chickens left in the freezer. January can be a lean month for families so we'll work with the social worker so the families will get them. Thanks to all of you and the congregation in general, our Methodist Women's group, Pastor Anna's running group, your friends and neighbors who pitched in with labor and funding to make this program possible. The food was so welcome and the assistance will continue through January.

Contemplative Book Study
Join Christine Hiester for a six-week contemplative book study in January and February on Madeleine L’Engle’s memoir through the church year, The Irrational Season: “The Irrational Season follows the liturgical year from one Advent to the next, with L’Engle reflecting on the changing seasons in her own life as a writer, wife, mother, and global citizen. Unafraid to discuss controversial topics and address challenging questions, L’Engle writes from the heart in this compelling chronicle of her spiritual quest to renew and refresh her faith in an ever-changing world and her ever-changing personhood.” (from www.madeleinelengle.com ) This is a wonderful book for anyone in season of life, and will inspire a deeper look into our own faith journey as we companion the author through hers. Madeleine L’Engle is known for her novels, especially A Wrinkle in Time and subsequent stories, but her writings on the spiritual life and creativity are beautiful and honest.
This book study will be in a hybrid format, meeting both at the church in room 210 and on Zoom. It will incorporate deep discussion, creative and spiritual practices, and prompts for the week. Wednesday evenings beginning January 12th and ending February 16th, from 7-8:30pm.
Attendees will need to purchase the book for the first meeting. To order the book click here.
***(Please note: there will be no Contemplative Prayer Circle in January)
Contact Christine Hiester christinehiester73@gmail.com to register.

Thank you
The pastors, staff, musicians and the Linworth UMC community would like to thank Stephen Houston for his years of service as our sound, technology coordinator. Steve Houston and Shelby Elliott have provided quality service production coordination and support throughout a challenging season at LUMC and we are all extremely grateful for their expertise and talents. They have both been vital to our capacity to stay engaged, connected in meaningful ways online and in person. Steve and Shelby are transitioning to focus more fully on other opportunities, and while they may occasionally offer their support, LUMC is in need of someone to lead this important aspect of ministry moving forward.
For further information on the Worship Service Production Coordinator position please click here. If you know of anyone that would be a great fit for this position, please share.
